In preparation for Christmas and Halloween, people always turn on some of their favorite specials to get in the mood, but there are plenty of episodes about Valentine’s Day, too. No matter what your plans are for Valentine’s Day, you can get excited for the holiday with these cartoon episodes. Some shows are more well known than others, but this could be an opportunity to explore new shows and rediscover old favorites.
1. "Fanning the Flames" from "Danny Phantom."

"Danny Phantom" is a show that has no shortage of episodes with a romantic element, but this one is chalked full with them from beginning to end, both caused by Ember McClain’s love spell and not. When a ghost singer hypnotizes almost everyone with her catchy song, it is up to a lovesick superhero, the goth that the superhero can’t get enough of and terrible karaoke to save the day from the number one on the charts. Add some clever banter, exciting fight scenes, ridiculous flirting and a fantastic song and you have a fabulous way to kick off your Valentine’s Day marathon.
2. "Ruby Cubed" from "Ruby Gloom."

This cute little Canadian cartoon about “the bright side of the dark side” may not be too well known, but you won’t need any context to enjoy the warm fuzzies of this episode. The Gloomsville gang is putting on a production parodying “Romeo and Juliet”, but Skullboy is having difficulties getting through the kiss scene some of his friends start giving him a hard time for it. When Skullboy starts looking around the prop closet to see if he can find something to inspire him, he comes across a fancy hat, but little does he know that it makes anyone in close proximity to the wearer fall instantly in love with them. Quickly things turn into boys chase girls chase boys and it’s up to Ruby to help fix everything so that the show can go on. With the quirky and adorable cast of characters and humor for all ages, this is a watch that anyone could enjoy.
3. "Attack of the 5½ Ft. Geek" from "My Life as a Teenage Robot."

It’s the age-old story of a boy falling in love with a girl whose not interested, except this girl is a crime fighting robot who just wants to be a normal teenager and the very nerdy boy gets kidnapped by the Lonely Hearts Club Gang. This is the episode where Sheldon is first introduced so continuity is not an issue, and although I have watched it enough times to be able to recite the lines word for word, I still find myself laughing at all the jokes. Because this episode is the shortest on the list, it can deliver you a healthy dose of Valentine’s Day fun in ten minutes.
4. "Dark Cupid" from "Miraculous Ladybug."

"Miraculous Ladybug" is French cartoon that started airing in the United States in late 2015, so this Valentine’s Day, the only way to watch "Dark Cupid" is with English subtitles. By next year, the version with English voices have aired, but even with the subtitles this episode is fantastic. Marinette finds a poem that Adrien was writing to Ladybug, her superhero identity, and decides to finally write him how she feels. At the same time, Chat Noir, Adrien’s superhero identity, has decided to tell Ladybug how he feels about her. Things get more complicated though when Ladybug and Chat Noir have to save Paris from Dark Cupid, who has arrows to make friends and lovers hate each other, and you as the viewer get to come along for the wild ride.
5. "Spellbound" from the "Teen Titans."

This is the darkest entry on the list, but no one who loves the relationship between Beast Boy and Raven can pass it up. After Beast Boy snaps at Raven for not wanting to leave her room and join in his antics, Raven falls for a being trapped in one of her ancient books, and begins studying new magic and getting stronger in order to release the being from the prison of the pages. All is not what it seems, there is an epic fight scene, and an apology is made that is truly touching. Whether or not you were a fan of the original series, this episode will pull on your heartstrings.
6. "Hanky Panky Hullabaloo" from "Ed, Edd, and Eddy."

This is probably the most well known Valentine’s special on the list, and it is my personal favorite as well. It starts with the typical set up with Eddy trying to scam everyone, this time with a kissing booth, but then we get a valentines twist. After cupids that look suspiciously like Sarah and Jimmy start shooting everyone in the school with love arrows, everyone in the cast starts falling for each other, starting with May Kanker and Double D. Who wouldn’t fall for Edd’s Valentine puns based on famous scientists, though? While the pairings may or may not be your favorite, there is lots of charm and humor to this episode that makes it a Valentine’s Day staple.
