Exclamation: carpe diem
1.used to urge someone to make the most of the present time and give little thought to the future.
“Seize the day. Because, believe it or not, each and every one of us in this room is one day going to stop breathing, turn cold and die.”
I did not pick that quote to deter you from anything but to hopefully help motivate anyone that is reading this to realize how little time we have on this earth and to make it into the life that they want. We are given a set number of days and nobody knows their number. We cannot just sit around and ignore the fact that the world that we live in has so many opportunities for everyone to learn and thrive from. We have the chance everyday to make something of ourselves and to show the world who we really are.
My mother, when she sees me in a weird funk, tells me to “Seize the day! Carpe Diem!” She yells that while she is in my room making sure that I am prepared to face anything that might be put in my way of conquering the day. The day is meant to be seized and taken as your own, to show it who is boss. You might be facing different problems in your life, hardships that no one around you understands or even acknowledges, but that does not mean that this day can’t be yours. Whether you are starting your final year of college, your first day of middle school or even starting a new job, you have the chance to make everyday your own.
A few days ago was the anniversary of the death of Robin Williams. He played Mr. John Keating in Dead Poets Society. Even though the movie came out twenty six years ago, before I was born, I always take it to heart. I listen to Mr. Keating as if he was my own teacher, as if I went to Welton Academy with the boys in the movie, and helped them with some of their problems. I might not go through the same problems as the boys or even the same problems as some of my own classmates, but I know that I can face them head on with the urge to seize the day on my heart. I may not know your problems or what you are facing but I strongly encourage anyone that might be reading this to take your day and make it yours. Seize it! Carpe Diem!
“Carpe Diem. Seize the day boys, make your lives extraordinary.”
