It is amazing to think about the amount of information our brains process each and every day. I often have trouble remembering what I did the previous week, so to make sure I document the extraordinary moments in my life, I take pictures everywhere. Time change so quickly, so it’s nice to look back and remember those events and those people that contributed to making you into the person you are today. Here are some of the reasons that I like to take pictures and why you should start clicking wherever you go.
1. It makes you feel something.
No matter who you are, if I show you a picture from when you were a baby, or of when that special someone is caught smiling at you, you will feel something. Maybe it’s a picture of you with someone who has passed. Maybe it is a picture with a loved one. Or maybe it is a picture of a past friend. Whatever it is, it will evoke an emotion, good or bad, and it will come with a stream of memories.
2. Memories.
We can’t remember everything, our brains aren’t capable. But when you pick up that picture, and see an old road or an old tree in your old front yard, it will bring you back to your childhood. Such a simple picture can bring back so many memories. Time moves so quickly and we are always living in the present, preparing for the future, so why not take some time to appreciate our past.
3. Pictures are a slideshow of your life.
Sometimes we get stuck in a period of our life where our days are very routine and we feel we are not doing anything significant. But pick up that photo album or slide through your phone and explore that extraordinary things you have done in your life. You live an amazing life and have experienced so much.
4. Capture the moment.
The world around us is indescribable. There are so many Kodak moments worth capturing. Whether it is a picture of you and your friends cracking up, or a picture of you holding each other crying, pictures capture this. Not only human emotions, but also nature. Take a picture of a wave or an empty field or the stars in the sky. Whatever it may be that seems incredible to you, there is so much this world has to offer, and we should observe and hold on to those things.
5. We learn from and about each other.
Pictures let us see things through someone else’s point of view. It lets us see what is important to them and why it is important to them. It also allows us to see or feel as though we were in the moment with them.
