Over the Thanksgiving holidays, the new trailer for the upcoming Marvel film Captain America: Civil War debuted on Jimmy Kimmel Live! According to Marvel.com, the trailer debuted with over 61 million views in 24 hours.
Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to promote the film slated to be released on May 6, 2016. After the new poster was debuted, then came the explosive new trailer.
The beginning of the trailer opens on the scene similar to the one that also appears at the end of the credits in Ant-Man. In this scene, Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) and Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) surround a haggard looking Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), whose arm is in what appears to be a vice.
After that, it's explosions, running, and an epic looking fight scene between Iron Man, Captain America, and the Winter Soldier.

Looks amazing, right?
Captain America: Civil War is based off the Mark Miller written comic event of the same name where a tragic event leads to a push for the accountability all heroes to forfeit their secret identities and abilities to the government or fear imprisonment.
Obviously, the catalyst for the film will not the be same event from the comics. More than likely it revolves around another event, on top of the creation of Ultron and the Battle of Sokovia from Avengers: Age of Ultron. In the trailer, Thaddeus Ross (presumably) gives Steve Rogers a lengthy document entitled "Sokovia Accords."
The story will pit Iron Man and Captain America against one another in a battle that will probably end with tragedy.
Also included in the trailer is the first on-screen appearance of Chad Boswick’s highly anticipated Black Panther, whose public persona is known as T’Challa. Wakanda, where T’Challa is a prince, was briefly discussed in Avengers: Age of Ultron in regards to vibranium (what Cap’s shield and Ultron are made of). We don’t actually see Boswick’s face, but we do see his character in action, which is just as important.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Nate Moore discussed T'Challa's role in the film. Moore said that T'Challa is not settled on either side.
“He’s someone who hasn’t necessarily made up his mind about either side and whose agenda isn’t exactly what Cap’s agenda or what Tony’s agenda is. And I think that brings him into conflict weirdly with both characters at different times in the film. He is the prince of an African nation that has so far stayed very much sort of in the shadows. And eventually the film will draw him and his father out of the shadows.”
However, in art released by Disney, Black Panther is clearly shown on Iron Man's side. Interestingly enough, Scarlet Witch is not featured on Cap's side but is shown there in the trailer.
As for other Marvel characters, the battle lines are clearly drawn.
Based on the trailer, it is very clear where other characters stand. Hawkeye, Winter Soldier, and Sam Wilson are on the side of Captain America, who is in opposition of the Registration Act. Other heroes, Iron Patriot, and Black Widow, are on the side of the government and Iron Man. Not featured in the trailer are Ant-Man, Agent 13 and The Vision. Neither Crossbones or Helmut Zemo are shown, but both are expected to be antagonists.
Spiderman is also rumored to be appearing in Civil War after being coincidentally referenced to in Ant-Man. Tom Holland, who was cast as a young Peter Parker, was seen on set in Atlanta. There have been no definitive reports on the wall crawler's role in the film. In the comics, Spiderman had years of comic history to back him up, whereas Holland will be portraying a very young Parker who might be at the beginning of his career. It all depends on the time jump in between the films.
Also, Downey mentioned in the interview with Jimmy Kimmel that he and Evans will be back to film in Atlanta at a later date. Just gonna leave that there for you speculators and comic book aficionados.
There is so much speculation surrounding this highly anticipated film that the only way to definitively answer all the burning questions is to see it in theaters May 6th, 2016.
But in the meantime, what side are you on? Team Iron Man or Team Captain America?
