Can You Die Of Laughter?

Anyone who knows me has probably realized....I LOVE to laugh.

Many of my friends have made fun of me for how much I laugh. I laugh so frequently that a few of my friends joke that every 15 minutes I have to laugh even if nothing funny happened. Here are a few reasons why:

This past year, I laughed so hard at a bad lip reading of the NFL that I fell off my bed and dropped my laptop on the floor in the process. A few days prior to that, I laughed so hard at something my roommate said that I inhaled the yogurt covered raisins I was eating. Literally. A lot of times, my roommate asks me what I'm laughing at. Sometimes I'm laughing at something, sometimes I'm laughing at nothing at all. I'm just a happy person in general. And it's kind of hard to explain what I'm laughing at when it's a story that happened over three years ago involving people my roommate's never heard of.

And I've realized I might have a problem. The situation concerning the yogurt covered raisins was not an isolated occurrence--it is quite common for me to laugh while I'm eating or drinking. Which often leads to choking, which could lead to dying. Thus, I COULD LITERALLY DIE OF LAUGHTER.

One day a few years ago, I was sitting in my room, and my little brother came in. I can't remember what I said to him, but he laughed and said, "Your children will be the FUNNIEST people someday--if they take after you."

My initial response was confusion. Did he think I'd marry someone who wasn't funny? Someone who never laughed? But then I thought that perhaps I'd never have to worry about choking if there was nothing to laugh at. But how drab a life that would be. I think I would rather die laughing than spend years sitting around the table silent and grim. And if I have children, I do hope they will have my sense of humor. Otherwise, we won't have nearly as much fun.

So. Perhaps laughter is the best medicine; perhaps it will be the death of me. Just know that, regardless of what causes me to die, I will continue to laugh until I'm stone dead. And if you need a good laugh, you'll probably find me laughing to myself as I eat yogurt covered raisins. You may not know me, but I invite you to share my laughter and my yogurt covered raisins whenever you want. I just hope you can save a choking victim. Just FYI, I can. So you're safe with me. (You're welcome.)

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
