They used to say diamonds are a girl’s best friend, but they are now wrong. Walk into any classroom on campus and on most of every girl’s desk you will find a water bottle, also called a CamelBak. These have become a staple to any outfit, or setting. It used to be that we could not leave the house without our purse, or even a touch of lipstick, but now it is water in a beautiful bottle that costs upwards of $20.
I am not entirely sure on the history of how these rose to such popularity, but it seemed that everyone got the memo except for me. I came back after summer this fall to prepare for recruitment, and every single person I see sitting at a table has some large, cute, and even decorated water bottle in front of them. Obviously, I immediately have to figure out what these awesome water bottles are called and purchase one.
I now get it. These things are so fun to drink out of, and they are so easy to hold and keep handy all the time. Also, you do not even have to tilt it back to make it work, all you do is sip out of the straw like a normal drink, and -- bam -- you are hydrated. I wish I had a million of these bad boys to just switch out each day, but unfortunately they run a little pricey for something that just holds water.
The only downside with them is that I always forget to bring it to class with me, but I think that is only relevant to people who forget things in a really short amount of time, like I do. CamelBaks have actually made me realize my faults and want to fix them for the betterment of my own health and hydration. These are more than just water bottles, they are character builders and they really do work. Before these bottles came along, I would stroll out of my house to class without drinking a sip of water, not even knowing I was thirsty in the first place. Now, I see my empty CamelBak, consciously fill it up, and I am set for the day.
I am not saying CamelBaks save lives, but they sure do make life a lot more fun and they look good while they do it. There is a sense of community seeing all these college women sipping from these amazing devices. We are collectively living healthier lifestyles along with testing our minds in the morning to make sure that we fill them up for ourselves.
If you do not own a CamelBak, do not fear because I was in your shoes not too long ago. Hopefully, after reading this, you do yourself a favor and purchase one because you will feel 10 times cooler and 10 times more hydrated.
