You get back to school after Thanksgiving break and have two to three weeks of nonstop running around hell. You have papers, projects, tests, and finals. You have late nights and early mornings and how are you supposed to keep up? You go from being thankful and having a nice little break to running around so frantically that you can’t seem to remember anything. You have end of semester meetings and get togethers, and Christmas parties all to squeeze into your really tight schedule. How do people expect you to get in the Christmas mood when all you are doing is holding yourself together from not having a nervous breakdown?
'Tis the season for everyone to have sweets around so you go from eating real food, to eating leftover holiday treats and wondering why you feel so gross. Coffee and eggnog replaces water and running between classes replaces exercise. How are you supposed to get in the holiday cheer?
Your social life consists of wishing each other good luck on test as you transition through classes, you start to talk to your textbooks like they truly understand you, because heavens knows you don’t understand them yet.
You might have a Charlie Brown like tree in your house, that you got from the dollar store before Thanksgiving, but you are never home to enjoy it. The library and the local coffee shops have become your new hang outs and your bed is starting to feel neglected.
It’s cold outside and it threatens to turn your fingers and toes into popsicles. That project you put off doing is about to be due and you still haven’t started that 10 page paper.
Just when you think you aren’t going to make it to the end of the semester, you find yourself in your last final and have to figure out your travel plans for how you are getting home for the next few weeks. Christmas break has arrived and now that you have nothing to do you can finally get in the Christmas mood. It took almost a month and a lot of other work to do, but you finally made it through the before-Christmas-push.
You then spend the first few days, passed out, just trying to gain strength and recover from the exhaustion you have just endured. But after you recover, the holiday spirit attacks you and you spend the next two weeks with your family and good food and good times.
College Christmas is very different, but it is the most rewarding thing once you get to it. Hope you have a great Christmas and I hope you make it through the before-Christmas-push.
