Summer 2016 is officially here! Don't have any plans and can't think of anything to do? You don't necessarily have to fly across the country for a week long, crazy expensive getaway. If you're anything like me, you'll find any excuse to travel. Here's a summer bucket list of cool places to go, right here in the Lone Star State.
1. Magnolia Market
Located in Waco, Texas, sits Fixer Upper's Chip and Joanna Gaines' Magnolia Market. Not only can you shop and gawk over the beautiful things in Chip and Joanna's markets, but outside of the Silos, there's a big, luscious green lawn for plenty of outdoor fun. Whether it's throwing a football, having potato sack races, or playing corn hole, there's something to keep everyone entertained! And if you're really lucky (or willing to pay a lot extra) you might be able to stay in their bed and breakfast!
2. Zilker Park
Austin is probably one of the coolest cities in the state of Texas. There's so much to do that there's never enough time. Zilker Park is just a huge recreational field and it may not sound like much, but if you ever go to Austin for the weekend, take a football or frisbee, some friends, and your pup. It's a guaranteed good time soaking up that Texas sun.
3. Enchanted Rock
Enchanted Rock is an enormous pink granite pluton dome that rises naturally out of the earth at Enchanted Rock State Natural Area. It's said that creaking and groaning can be heard from the rock at night, but if you want to see something beautiful, why don't you go find out for yourself?
4. Cadillac Ranch
This one isn't new news to anyone, but I've been there before, and it's pretty interesting. Grab a can of spray paint in the color of your choice and go make your mark!
5. Cascade Caverns
Located in Bourne, Texas, Cascade Caverns is a cool, living cavern that stays about 64 degrees year round. It is also the only cave in Texas with a 100 foot waterfall!
6. Big Bend
You've most likely heard of this one, but it's simply beautiful. You can even book a boat ride down the Rio Grande to experience more of the park!
7. Fort Worth Stock Yards
The historic stock yards have been transformed into an attraction that hosts rodeos, concerts, and western-themed shopping.
8. Jacob's Well
Located in Wimberly, Texas, Jacob's Well Natural Area is a recreational, educational spot that offers tours throughout the day. Just north of the Natural Area lies a beautiful, crystal clear natural spring that flows from Cypress Creek. Such a perfect place to go for a swim and cool off after hiking in the Texas heat!
9. Zip Lining across Lake Travis
The three-hour adventure includes five zip lines ranging from 250 feet to over 2800 feet. In between lines, your tour guide will take you on hikes where you will continue to enjoy the beautiful views across the canyons and inlets of Lake Travis.
10. Blue Lagoon
Located in Huntsville, the Blue Lagoon is a beautiful spot to spend your Saturday with friends. It's blue water and natural beauty make it the perfect hang out spot -- but space is limited, so make sure you get there early!
11. Hamilton Pool
"If you don't do things while you're young, you'll have nothing to smile about when you're old."
