Bucket List For Summer 2016

A few things to try out this summer.

Bucket List For Summer 2016
Amanda Harn

Summer is right around the corner, and this means it is time to start putting together a summer bucket list. One of my favorite things to do every year is put together a list of places to go and activities to complete for every summer. This makes it easier for me to never have to sit around and not know what to spend my summer doing.

1. Go to the beach.

One of my favorite beaches to go to are the ones in Mexico, but I also like going to ones in Chicago. I love laying on the beach, soaking up the sun, and looking into the distance and seeing the Chicago skyline. I'm hoping this is going to be a summer tradition between me and my best friends, because it is something I am looking forward to this summer.

2. Go to the zoo.

It doesn't make you a child if you love going to the zoo. I try to add this one to my bucket list every summer because there are so many things you can do at the zoo. There are a few free ones, because who doesn't love free stuff.

3. Go fishing.

Fishing is my favorite thing about summer. There's just something about sitting by the side of a body of water with a pole in my hand. I'm not a fan of killing living things, so I only fish to catch and release them. Fishing is for every season, not just summer, but it's on my bucket list because I want to go as many times as I can, and I want to catch more fish than I did the years before.

4. Go to the drive-in

I've gone one time in my life, and it was one of the coolest experiences ever. It was so fun to lay in a truck bed, full of blankets, outdoors, while watching a movie on a big screen. I wish there were more drive-ins because they are worth going to. They always have double features where they play two movies, and normally they are new movies that are just coming out. If you haven't gone to a drive-in, you should go at least once in your life. They're super cheap and only cost about 10 dollars per person.

5. Go camping.

I'm not huge into camping, but I like going every once in awhile. Camping is like a little get away trip. You pack a suitcase, food to cook, a bed to sleep in, and any necessary items you need, and spend a weekend outdoors. It's nice to just get away from reality sometimes and spend time in nature not having to worry about anything, or anyone.

6. Plant a sunflower garden.

I am already in the process of doing this, but I have always dreamed of having a sunflower garden. I think these flowers are so pretty, and I can't wait to see how my garden turns out. I just think it's so cool how a flower can grow so tall and still be so beautiful.

These are just a few things I plan on spending my summer doing, but this list is just a start. Summer only lasts for three months, so everyone needs to make the best out of it, and do as much cool activities as possible!

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
