Incoming freshmen, get ready for the ride of your lives. A lot of people seem to be under the impression that Liberty students don't know how to have a good time. I'm here to say that Liberty students know how to have the best time, of course that is, as long as they make the best of their years at school. Here are some "must do"s for your first year at the best school in the universe to make your freshman year one for the books.
1. Go to Mister Goodies at least eight times.
What's better than soft served ice-cream dipped in cake batter? You'll find that Mister Goodies is the Liberty celebration spot. After something good happens you go to Mister Goodies, even if that something good is as small as passing room checks. Just make sure not to order the large - it's about as big as the cone in this picture.
2. Attend a midnight Liberty sporting event.
A super fun excuse for missing curfew is always a must at Liberty! You'll find that Liberty students apparently have the most energy at midnight. Midnight games involve hype music, bright lights, and pure exhaustion the morning after that is more than worth it.
3. Go to the Liberty Astronomical Observatory.
This may not sound this fun, but it's definitely worth your while. The Observatory gives you the incredible opportunity to view God's amazing creation closer than you ever thought you could. With a new 24-inch telescope, you feel like an astronaut yourself. So share this amazing opportunity with a couple of friends and it will be a night to remember.
4. Order artichoke dip from Rivermont Pizza.
Make sure you come to Rivermont hungry, and when I say hungry I mean starving. Their funky flavored pizzas and their appetizers are to die for, especially their artichoke dip which you may find yourself eating with just a fork.
5. Hike Sharp Top.
Want a breathtaking view that doesn't involve killing your legs trying to hike up a huge mountain? Sharp Top is the mountain for you! Sharp Top is great for those who have not had much hiking experience because it is not too intense. That being said, the mountains around Liberty are just beautiful and Sharp Top gives you an incredible view of them.
6. Join an intramural team.
I am fully convinced that intramural sports can get more intense than actual college sports or even professional sports. Intramural sports are a great way to meet friends and to have fun playing the sports you love without the pressure. It's even fun to try sports you never have tried before,or have never even heard of, like broomball.
7. Attend Coffeehouse.
Liberty's campus is crawling with incredible talent. Coffeehouse is a great way to hear your fellow peers and classmates' amazing musical abilities! This is also another excuse to be out after curfew while you hang out with Jerry and Becki and enjoy hilarious student-made videos and impressive performances.
8. Eat a Mama Crockett's Donut.
The food truck that holds Heaven inside of it can be found on Liberty's campus during special occasions, but it's mostly found in downtown Lynchburg. These hot apple cider donuts will have your tastebuds thanking you for every bite.
9. Go to Locked Up Lynchburg.
Think you're super smart? Test your brain and team building skills at Locked Up Lynchburg. Locked Up Lynchburg was created by former Liberty students and consists of three different escape rooms that you and your team must figure out how to escape from before time runs out!
10. Attend Scaremare.
Even if you don't enjoy scary things, you must experience Scaremare at least once in your time at Liberty. Scaremare has been a Lynchburg tradition since 1972. It involves haunted houses and trails that are creatively used to share the Gospel. Scaremare is also a great opportunity to hear your "tough" friends scream like babies.
11. Watch the sunset from the medical building.
One thing you will find out within only a few nights at Liberty is that there is never a night without a stunning sunset (of course, that is if it is not raining or cloudy). Catch an up close view of God's amazing paintings in the sky at the Medical Building which overlooks all of the mountains around campus.
12. Attend Lynchstock.
Amazing music, good food, and great friends - what could be better than that? Lynchstock is one of the most popular events that takes place in Lynchburg. So grab your hippie clothes and a picnic blanket and go enjoy this annual local music festival.
13. Have a bonfire at Camp Hydaway.
Camp Hydaway is Liberty's off-campus camping site that includes a big lake, paddle boards, kayaks, a water slide, and more. The best part is that if you are a Liberty student, you can rent everything for FREE. Camp Hydaway is great for picnics and for late night bonfires in the woods with s'mores.
14. Eat a fruit bowl from Millie's.
You may just want to come here to take pictures of your food, because thats how pretty it is! Millie's is Lynchburg's health spot that has wraps, salads, smoothies, and fruit bowls. Millie's makes healthy food taste and look amazing.
15. Spend a day in Charlottesville.
This is a great way to take a little getaway from campus with some friends for the day. Charlottesville is not too far from Lynchburg and consists of the absolute cutest main street that has shops, restaurants and live music.
16. Eat at Blue Ridge Bagels.
Looking for some New York styled bagels in the South? Blue Ridge bagels is the place for you. Blue Ridge Bagels has bagels, sandwiches, donuts, and coffee. This is definitely a popular breakfast and lunch spot for Liberty students.
These are only but a few "must do" things your freshman year at Liberty. Things are always going on around campus and it is guaranteed that you never have to be bored. No matter what you do and where you go your freshman year, make sure to cherish the moments you have because before you know it, you will be packing up and heading home for the summer.
