My brother and me have a simple relationship: I love him, he loves me and we both hate each other to death. Many of my friends are confused about what I think about my brother, especially when I tell stories of me almost blinding him with a baseball (even if it was really my dad who did that) or stealing his copy of the Declaration of Independence and replacing it with a picture of Nicholas Cage. Despite many rivalries we have had and our many differences, the one thing I do know is no matter how much I hate him, I think he's the best brother in the world.
As brothers, one could expect we would be a lot alike, but that couldn't be any more of a lie. My brother is a huge sports fan. He can memorize statistics about football and basketball, and you can be sure he is always watching his favorite teams on game day. However, I'm completely different. I hated sports. In fact, the only thing louder than the crowd cheering for Sam Bradford's latest touchdown was me complaining about it.
Outside of sports, we still aren't recognizable. He was in marching band and competed on the swim team throughout all of his high school career. I quit band in 7th grade and competed in speech and debate.
Despite all of our differences, he and I get along most of the time. Every show I had preformed, be it at the sooner theatre or a high school production, he came. My regret was that I never showed him the same support when he was in high school. I hated going to his band concerts and competitions and yet he still supported me with every thing I did.
What I'm trying to say is, please remember your siblings. Even if you hate them, they look out for you and care for you. I used to wish he would leave me alone, and now I wish I had been a better brother to him as he as to me. Siblings may fight with each other, they might hate one another, and they might even throw a punch or two. Yet, I still think the world of my brother and wish him nothing but the best.
Please, take a moment to talk to your brother's and sister's today, and remember everything they have done for you. My brother and me fight, but I still support him no matter what he is going through. I hope you can all do the same with your siblings.
