Tragedy fell on the city of love last Friday. According to The Telegraph, 129 people were killed in seven terror attacks in Paris, and these attacks were coordinated by ISIS.
This is an open letter to everyone who lost someone that day.
I cannot imagine the terror that was felt on that day. I cannot imagine the hurt that the victims feel. I cannot imagine the confusion, pain and anger.
This is the time of year in the United States that is meant to be filled with happiness and the giving of many thanks. But instead we are reminded yet again of how broken our world is.
According to the Associated Press, the French President said that the attacks targeted “youths in all its diversity.” These people, many in the prime of their lives, all died too young.
I went through many pictures of the fallen ones. These people were fathers, mothers, sisters, bothers, significant others and many more things.
Sometimes words are not enough to describe how painful loss can be. When words fail us, we must show each other what comfort looks like, what support looks like, what love looks like. We must embrace each other.
Unfortunately our world is full of tragedy, senseless tragedies. Bad things happen all the time in many different parts of the world. It is overwhelming. And even though it can be a lot to take in at times, I believe it is important to recognize these hardships and remember the fallen ones.
So, as Thanksgiving fast approaches, I encourage you all to be thankful for your loved ones who are gathered around the table and those who could not be present. Be thankful for the moment you have with them.
