Brock Turner: Freedom Or Jail?

Justice needs to be served on those who break the law; no matter who that person may be.

Brock Turner: Freedom Or Jail?
Rolling Stone

Everyone probably knows the name Brock Turner and what he did a few months back. The media, however only wanted to show to good side of Turner. Yes, he was a start swimmer and yes he attended Stanford University. Well, at least he did but then he got expelled due to his crime. The Turner family swore that Brock was always a good boy and would never another human being. However, according to evidence that was found, Brock Turner was found guilty of raping a girl.

Because of who he and his family were, the news media ate it up and made sure the entire world would see what happened. Sadly, also because of who he was, Turner got off easy. He was only sentenced six months for his crime. Take into account that the usual "minimum sentence for rape is 5.4 years." Due to his lack of sentencing, American citizens became outraged. The people believed that it does not matter whether someone is rich or talented, the consequences should be the same. This also turned into a race argument because some believed that the only reason Turner was not sentenced fully is due to him being white. Which, of course, caused many more problems to blossom all around the country. And because of what has been announced of Brock Turner, the country is going to go ballistic.

According to CNN.com, "Ex-Stanford University student Brock Turner, will be released from jail on Friday September 2, 2016." This fact is definitely a hard pill to swallow. How can any justice system release someone who is responsible for hurting another human being? The answer to that is our justice system is biased based on who the person is. It also means they're not a justice system at all! I only say that because the judge who was in charge of this case only thought about Brock's swimming record and his future career. He never once took into account about the crime Turner actually committed and how many people he hurt doing so. And it's not like Brock Turner has a career anymore anyways.

According to CNN.com, "USA Swimming as banned swimmer Brock Turner for life." Because of this fact, I think Turner should stay in jail where he belongs. Some may think I'm being biased because I'm a girl and someone got raped. However, even if he robbed someone, killed someone or even stole someone's identity, he deserves to be put away from society. In my opinion, if a person does not actually pay for their consequences, they're probably going to repeat the same actions again. I agree that it is sad that someone so well-educated and talented could do something this cruel but, he needs a real sentencing and does not deserve a bond. Brock Turner, in my opinion, is a menace and deserves to be treated as such. OR at least until he actually goes to jail for the usual time allotted for rapists.

I know my words may come off as harsh or offensive but, they needed to be said. Some people don't know how to speak up when they feel something is unfair. I, however, am not afraid to do so. I also want to remind the people reading that I do NOT care if he is Caucasian, African American, Hispanic, green or blue; if a crime is committed, that person deserves to be put away and serve their time.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
