Break-ups, we've all been through them. Some break-ups are easy and amicable. Some are hard but necessary, or unwanted. Others are just down right nasty and mean. Which ever break-up you've had, you know that you or the person you're breaking up with usually gives a one liner.
The one liner is the main excuse given to ending the relationship; the break-up line. Because almost every break-up line has a double meaning behind it, and I've just decided I've properly decoded most of them, here are the most common break-up lines used and what they actually mean.
1. It's not you, it's me.
This means it is absolutely you. You did something they didn't like, and instead of coming right out and saying what you did, they decided that it's easier to say this so they kind of take the blame without really seeming like a bad guy. Just man up.
2. I'm just not sure what I want right now.
When they pull this line out of their butts it either means now of two things. 1. They know what they want right now, and it's just not you. It may be another girl, maybe not, who knows. Or 2: They liked where you before you were serious because it meant they couldn't really get in trouble for talking to other girls.
3. I don't think I'm ready for something serious.
See above.
4. I'm not good enough for you.
Okay spare me the whole I'm saving you act. If I like you then I think you're good enough for me, you don't get to make that decision. End of discussion.
5. We want different things.
Yeah, like how I want to be in a relationship with you for some reason but you want to go hook up with Jessie over there. Nice try.
6. We just argue a lot.
Actually: you're tired of me proving that you're being stupid and need to listen to me more often. Don't be so big headed and we'll be fine.
7. I want to enjoy being young.
I want to go to parties a lot and not get in trouble for binge drinking and the random hook-ups that may or may not happen.
8. Let's try a break.
Oh sorry, have you seen Friends? Do you remember what happened to Ross and Rachel on their 'break'? I will be fair and say every now and again a break is needed, but other times it's just an excuse to play the field.
9. Relationships are hard at school
Nope, they're really not. You're just being lazy and don't really want to try. Or see #7.
10. I'm too busy with Pokémon Go to have a relationship too.
I'm sure this excuse has probably come up once or twice since this game came out, and I admire their creativity, but remember: the couple that Pokémon Go's together stays together.
