Yes, I tell my boyfriend everything and yes, he is my best friend. Here's what it is like to be dating your best friend.
This is my boyfriend/best friend, Jacob. We've been together for nearly a year now, and I couldn't be happier. He's an amazing person with such a big heart, but this isn't all about him. It's about how not only is he my boyfriend, but also, he's my best friend.
Dating your best friend comes with a good amount of perks. He is the first person I go to when I need to talk about something, he cares about me and is willing to listen. We can have serious conversations and talk about things openly with one another.
We don't have to be serious all the time and I think that's what helps make things run smoothly. We've learned each other's mannerisms and are able to joke around without going too far. Throughout our relationship, we've allowed plenty of time for each of our interests. He is super supportive of the things I'm interested in and always makes an effort to be there for me (of course I do the same).
Like every other couple, we have our disagreements. This can sometimes be really difficult, I mean hey, he's my best friend. When things go wrong he is the first person I want to go to. If we argue and I need someone to talk to he's the one I want to talk, however, he's also the one I'm arguing with. I do have plenty of other friends I confide in that I love dearly and am blessed every day by having them in my life, but fighting with him and not being able to talk to him about it gets difficult. We always get through these disagreements, in the end, it isn't worth losing him over.
Not only do I get an amazing best friend, I get to call this amazing person my boyfriend! I graduated in May of this year and May of next year I get to watch my him do the same. It has been incredible to be able to be apart of and watch him go through his senior year in high school.
Since I took off a year to work, we will both be taking on freshman year of college together. It makes me feel a lot better that I'll have someone there with me, so I don't have to go into it alone.
All in all, I don't regret having a boyfriend that is also my best friend, I would whole heartedly recommend it. He is my biggest support system in my day to day life and I'll never be able to thank him enough. He isn't a replacement for my friends, I definitely consider it as a bonus. I laugh and enjoy my life with him by my side just as I do with the rest of my friends, but I get a little extra love from this one.
