So, this Monday, a new, more descriptive trailer was released for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," and the world went crazy. Some were rejoicing, some were over it, but there were a select few who had a different reaction: anger.
Why did they lose it, you may ask? Well, because there's a black storm trooper.
Yes, you read that correctly.
Now, granted, the hashtag was started by two idiot 4chan trolls, but it evolved into actual racist rhetoric that show how we (actually) feel about race today. Here's a collection of a few of my favorite tweets:
Not only are these tweets incredibly racist, but most of them are just straight up stupid. White genocide? Because of more representation for other races in movies? Do yourself a favor, and travel a bit more.
Friendly reminder: here's a photo of George Lucas (you know, the guy who runs this whole shindig) and his wife.
If you're "#boycottingstarwarsvii" because it's "anti-white," I can only imagine your reaction to this. Yikes.
Also in the news, Paul Ryan announced that he would be running for speaker of the house on the condition that he still be able to spend time with his family. Which is fantastic! It's awesome to see a politician so concerned with family values actually practicing what he preaches! He's a real trail blazer and now an inspiration, especially for women who want to spend time with their newly born children without being fired from their jobs. He'd support them, right? Family over work, am I right, Paul?
Wrong. Just two years ago, Ryan voted against women having extended maternity leave. So, just to make his stance clear: it's totally ok when he does it, but god forbid a woman who just pushed something the size of a watermelon out of her uterus have that right.
Hillary Clinton started hearing over the Benghazi scandal this week, and there's really no end in sight. Unfortunately, the internet has been spammed with Hillary Clinton memes. Clinton has really been trying to relate to the younger generations, and it's getting borderline ridiculous. Hillary, you're not going to get the young vote by using words like "fleek" or making a Vine. Same goes to you, media.
Overall, it was a really idiotic week here in America. Rather than focus on the Category 5 Hurricane Patricia headed straight for Mexico, or the first U.S. Military death in the war against ISISor the fact that we committed a full-on war crime, we watched a woman answer email questions for days on end, boycotted a movie because of diversity, and allowed a hypocrite to run for a high public office. Great job to both the public and the media.
