Ladies, put down your pints of mint-chip ice cream, your classic romance novels, your treasured Princess Diaries collection and ask yourself this question: Do you find yourself obsessed with the hot guy in the movies? I’m talking about the characters played by Channing Tatum, Chris Hemsworth and Zac Efron.
Why do you watch some movies over and over again? Is it an actor’s persona or is it just his pretty face? Are you infatuated with his muscles or dreamy eyes? Are you really benefiting from the movie or is it only making you more desperate for a relationship?
| In most movies, the boy next door usually tops the hot guy because he is more reasonable, has a better personality, and lives by higher standards. Let’s face it -- the guy next door often resembles the guys you meet in real life. Second, he accepts who he is – quirks and all. And, third, he lives responsibly. He’s the guy who wants to end up with a woman with intelligence, strength, and perspective on life— not just her outward beauty. |
In my opinion, here are some of film’s finest boys next door:
1. Mr. Darcy
Colin Firth in "Pride and Prejudice" -- "You must allow me to tell you much I admire and ardently love you.”

2. Gilbert Blyth
Jonathon Crombie in "Anne of Greene Gables" -- “I have a dream,” he said slowly. “I persist in dreaming it, although it has often seemed to me that it could never come true. I dream of a home with a hearth-fire in it, a cat and dog, the footsteps of friends – and you!”
3. Sam Baldwin
Tom Hanks in 'Sleepless in Seattle' -- “Well I'm not looking for a mail-order bride! I just want somebody I can have a decent conversation with over dinner. Without it falling down into weepy tears over some movie!”
4. Harry Potter
Daniel Radcliffe in the "Harry Potter" series: “She’s smart, funny, attractive…”
5. Mr. Knightley
Jeremy Northam in "Emma" -- “I cannot make speeches Emma. If I loved you less, I might be able to talk about it more, But you know what I am. You hear nothing but the truth from me.”
6. Alfred Kralik
Jimmy Stewart in "The Shop Around the Corner" -- “There might be a lot we don't know about each other. You know, people seldom go to the trouble of scratching the surface of things to find the inner truth.”
7. Chuck Bartowski
Zachary Levi in "Chuck" -- “I just need you to know that where ever you go, I’ll always be there to help you.”
8. Samwise Gamgee
Sean Astin in "The Lord of the Rings" -- "If ever I was to marry someone, it would have been her.”
9. Pete Cooper
Chris Evans in "Before We Go" -- “There is no perfect. There will always be struggles. You just have to pick who you are going to struggle with."
10. Jim Halpert
John Krasinski in "The Office" -- “Four years ago, I was just a guy who had a crush on a girl, who had a boyfriend. And I had to do the hardest thing that I’ve ever had to do, which was just to… wait… And, a lot of people told me I was crazy to wait this long for a date with a girl I work with but I think, even then I knew that…I was waiting for my wife.”
Ladies, enjoy your mint-chip ice cream, but do yourself a favor and find your own boy next door.
