SMU's favorite time of year is back

Boulevard Season is Here

You heard it right. Boulevard season is back and in full swing. Tents are popping up all over Dallas Hall Lawn signifying that the first home game is taking place this weekend. Break out your white dresses and polos, because Boulevards are back.

Easily one of the most anticipated events at SMU, Boulevards are an extreme form of tailgating. Brought to campus by our president, R. Gerald Turner, Boulevards take over main campus. Tents packed with football fans are put up in front of Dallas Hall as well as all the way down SMU Boulevard. Tents include Greek organizations, SMU commons and alumni. It's always fun to walk around the tents and find the most dedicated alumni tailgaters who even bring flat screen TVs inside their tents.

The Boulevard is an exciting place for everyone to gather before the game as well as build the anticipation for another possible win for the Mustangs. Many vendors set up at the flag pole to give out free food and merchandise. If you are a Business major at Cox, there is always a free meal right outside the Business school. Even the Meadows School sometimes has free food during the Boulevards!

It wouldn't be the Boulevard without the proper fashion. Every SMU student knows that the first Boulevard requires all white. White polos and khaki shorts for the guys and white dresses with cowboy boots for the ladies. Don't forget your camera, the first Boulevard is an essential photo opp for every student.

With one win against UNT and only one loss against Baylor this past weekend, the Mustangs are starting off on the right foot this season. The first home game against Liberty starts at 6pm on Saturday, September 17 in Gerald J. Ford Stadium. Let's pack the stadium full of white and bring SMU spirit back to football. This year we might even get another meme like last year's "Confused SMU guy".

Get ready to pony up for another great SMU football season and more Boulevards!

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
