Book boyfriends are the ones who make us giggle, have a wide smile on our faces, and turn bright red whenever they appear or are mentioned in the book we are reading. They are the ones who both capture our hearts and break them in the same book. They are the ones who make a lasting impression in our minds, constantly causing us to have dreams about dating them. These are my top three book boyfriends that I fangirl over:
1. Augustus Waters from "The Fault in Our Stars" by John Green
The way Augustus speaks makes whatever he says beautiful. He is very easy on the eyes, but he isn't arrogant or selfish. He is very sweet, caring and a charming gentleman. He doesn't see the flaws or the disabilities people have but rather just sees them for who they really are. Besides Hazel thinking that she is a ticking time bomb that will go off and take out everyone she cares about, Augustus doesn't seem to care and is there for her through all the hardships and all pain and setbacks that come with fighting cancer. He is honestly a very witty guy, and I love his use of metaphors.
"It's a metaphor, see: you put the killing thing right between your teeth, but you don't give it the power to do its killing." -- "The Fault in Our Stars"
Best of all, under all of his layers of wit and charm, he fears oblivion and wants people to remember him. Don't worry Augustus, you made an everlasting mark on every girl's hearts.
2. Jace Wayland from "The Mortal Instruments Series" by Cassandra Clare
Jace Wayland is a true angel (well, half-angel and half-human, to be more specific). His dark yet angelic look is complete with golden locks, runes (that pretty much look like tattoos), a leather jacket, and a motorcycle. Oh, and he also slays demons. What more can a girl want in a boyfriend? He might come off as an arrogant white boy at first, but he is really caring and has a big heart. While he is very cynical at times and makes a lot of sarcastic comments, he is a lot more delicate than he seems. His strange living arrangements could be an explanation behind his cynicism. He is living in an institute with a family that he isn't related to by blood and his family tree is extremely complicated. I love how cynical he is in fights with his "Nah-nah come and get me" attitude and his snarky comments. I am very sarcastic at times, so I relate to him in that way. The way he will fight to the end of the Earth (or in this case the end of the dimensions) for Clary and how he is so protective of her makes him a good contender for a boyfriend in my book.
3. Damon Salvatore from "The Vampire Diaries" by L.J. Smith
Damon Salvatore is the boy from "The Vampire Diaries" that always made me smile, giggle, and blush at the same time. Now, I do admit he is a psychopathic killer at times, but in his defense he is a blood-thirsty vampire. There is actually this protective side to Damon, and if you are dating him, he will do anything for you and make sure no harm comes your way. He is actually very self-absorbed as seen in the GIF above, but when he falls for someone, he is more in love with them than himself. Damon makes comments like "Have you been eating bunnies lately" that are very sarcastic and freaking hilarious and they just mold the book together. Damon is mysteriously charming and a very intriguing character. He is the type of boyfriend that you can be safe with, but heaven help the people who hurt you because Damon will tear them to shreds.
No matter how much these book boyfriends break our hearts, we will always root for them to get the girl and love them no matter what. They are the ones that make us giggle out loud and blush when reading, and they are also the ones that make us want to throw the book at the wall whenever they get into a bad situation. Book boyfriends are the ones who make us wish we were the girl they are going after and they are the ones who capture our hearts and hook us from the very beginning.
