Why There is No Place Like Bloomington Bars

Because I am only a few weeks away from graduating and leaving Bloomington, I have really been trying to soak up as much of Bloomington as possible so I do not leave wishing I could have done something that I never got to do. Part of this has increased my KOK, Dunkirk and other bar visits by a good amount. Needless to say, Indiana University is not just a school based on drinking, but it does help that it has some of the best bars in the state.

The last time I went home my best friend wanted to go out, so I was like, "Oh yeah, great! It should be just as fun as Bloomington!!" But, I was dead wrong. We are all being spoiled here in Bloomington because there are not many bars, other than in a college town maybe, that have cheap drinks, t-shirts, alike crowds and good music all the time.

I've been to places where shots have cost $15 or more so, $2 just can't be beat. Thursdays give people something to look forward to because they can get shirts at KOK and $3 drinks. When I went out at home, it was so weird. I saw a lot of older people there and the DJs played their kind of music. That's cool and all, but how can all the twerkers twerk to old school country songs? Where I'm from, there is not really a place where all the students can go and can mingle with each other. I like to go to places where I don't have to see my high school secretary two-stepping with a drink in her hand. That's awkward and I'm not down for it. True story.

In a social, bar setting I like to be around peers. If the people who come to a particular bar are within the same age group, they will probably all be interested in a similar kind of music and the DJs will know how to make everyone happy. When going out away from Bloomington, people do not know how to act. The men in my hometown are too aggressive. Here all you have to do it push someone away and they will usually move on to the next person. Where I live, you literally have to hide to get away from the creepers.

Basically, there is no place like Bloomington--as far as bars and lots of other things are concerned. Going to a school in a college town gives students a unique experience. We can go to the bars with all of our friends and everyone is on the same page with the music, the etiquette, if you will, and the style of dancing. Our generation is definitely the twerking generation. Depending on where you live, the older people at the bars probably don't dance like us young adults do. It's cheap to eat and drink here and the traditions, like Thursday shirts, the breakfast club and the open to close challenge, give us something to look forward to, and have fun doing. Here, hanging out at the bars does not make you an alcoholic like it does in some places. If you want to got have a drink and some bread sticks at 11 a.m., no one will judge you. So live it up and treat yourself to a long island or two.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
