What’s Blonde, Orange And Skinny All Over? University Of Alabama Alpha Phi!

They’re so pretty it hurts to look.

What’s Blonde, Orange And Skinny All Over? University Of Alabama Alpha Phi!

“I feel profoundly dumber after having watched that video. Thanks a lot, Alpha Phi” –what the first comment says on YouTube by someone named “haroof” after this video was put back up. Thanks haroof!

Let’s be real: there is absolutely nothing wrong with the fact that apparently everyone in Alpha Phi at the University of Alabama is hot AF, but there is something wrong with the fact that this seems to be the only thing going for them. I mean, if I looked like that in a bikini, I would also probably sit around holding my respective sorority flag around my shoulders and jump around awkwardly. Just kidding, I probably wouldn’t…LOL. But in all seriousness, are these girls even friends or do they just sit around and do their makeup together? This video looks like it’s trying to recruit boys to join Alpha Phi.

However, this is honestly what most sorority vids look like. Girls are super into watching other girls blow glitter out of their hands, and the whole backwards-jumping-into-the-water shot is really timeless. Also, everyone really loves those doughnut shaped inner tubes from Urban Outfitters. But perhaps ‘Bama Alpha Phis took it a little far.

Real talk: there is straight up a shot of a blonde girl looking in the mirror and floofing her hair. Yeah, all girls spend time on their hair and makeup, but why does this need to be featured in their recruitment video? You girls are super pretty, hoots to you, but maybe include something else other than this in your video?

At the very beginning of this vid, there’s a zoomed in shot of a super hot girl walking up the stairs from behind, and her head is completely cut off. This is seriously feminism 101. This shot literally zooms in on her butt! Does this person even have a head and a brain?? And yeah, southern states are kind of behind on the whole feminism thing, so maybe ‘Bama A Phi’s aren’t up to date on that stuff, but c’mon. You could at least include her head, her hair probably looks fantastic and you can’t even see it!

Keeping with this cut-off-head trend, there are also several super summery and trendy shots of a girl walking on a dock with an Alpha Phi flag covering the top half of her body. Totally Instagrammable; this could probably be a Great Lakes ad. Again, I would still like to see this girl’s hair, but whatever.

Another random YouTuber named Courtney Collins commented on this video and said, “As a sorority member, I see no issues with this. I think it's important to understand that recruitment videos aren't meant to show off what it's like every day to be in a sorority during the school year i.e. studying, volunteering, participating in organizations on campus (yes, sorority members do those things). How does being pretty and having fun in the SUMMER make them dumb? They look cute to me.”

Courtney Collins, I will agree with you these girls look cute AF, and yeah, perhaps PNM’s don’t really want to see srat girls doing normal stuff. Rather, they want to see them having fun, but there could have been some talking in this vid. I heard zero of these girls’ voices. No one said squat during this entire video, and I don’t even know what this chapter stands for. As a young PNM, I would maybe want to know these things.

Trying to look at this vid from ‘Bama Alpha Phi’s point of view, I would probably be quite annoyed. They can’t help it that they’re cute and really freaking #skenny. And they clearly didn’t think this vid was going to go viral and cause so many problems. I think Gretchen Wieners said it perfectly, “I’m sorry that people are so jealous of me.” We’re sorry too, Alpha Phi.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
