Why are we constantly being judged for being a part of the Millennial generation? There are constantly articles being written bashing our generation. As a society people are obsessed with the phones we use, the laptops we type on, the careers we strive for, and the outfits we wear. I can't help but hate being categorized as one of them.
Most of us don't remember the first time we used a computer but remember the days that they were nothing more than a box like desktop where we used them for things like AIM, the Oregon Trail, and Myspace. I know many of us didn't have cell phones until around 8th grade but I now am surrounded by children in elementary schools with iPhones. I still remember times that I called my friends and family on the landline and my sister or mom would pick up the line downstairs to try to eavesdrop on the conversation. Many critique us for being millennials but why are we never admired for being a part of such a generation? Many of us stand for social progressivism and are constantly looking for meaning in our lives and are trying to make the world a better place than the day we stepped foot on it.
Many are optimistic but terrified of the real world. We preach about our care for sustainability and and cruelty to animals but use products that were tested on animals or over consume our amounts of meat. We are open to many modes of thought. When you categorize a generation of over millions of people it is unfair and offensive. Anybody that owns a business knows that they can sell their product to certain generations better than others. It is sometimes hard to depict what the core belief of millennials are. Most of us are overeducated, unemployed, and/or weighed down with thousands of dollars of student debt. We are seen as the "me" generation.
