Often times, we take everything we have for granted. Sometimes we even feel entitled to receive things, we know we didn’t even work for. Thanksgiving should not be the only day you are thankful for everything you have, because one day you won’t have them and you’ll wish you did.
I am thankful that I have the ability to write this right now. I’m thankful that today I had the gift of opening my eyes and living one more day. That is something that is not promised and the biggest thing we take for granted. Just remember that when you’re opening your eyes in the morning, someone is taking their last breath and someone’s family is grieving.
I am blessed to be able to say that my parents are still alive. I don’t tell them often how much I love and appreciate them, even when I know I should. My mother, specifically, has sacrificed so many things for my siblings and I and I honestly don’t know what I would do without her. Mom, I love you with all my heart, you’re my queen. My goal in life is for you to be proud of me. Dad, thank you for all the home cooked meals you have made for me. Thank you for being concerned about me, even when it’s just the slightest change in my mood, you always catch that.
I am thankful for my siblings. I love you guys so much. I talk about all of you all the time, people must be tired of me, honestly. I love going back home because I get to spend time with all of you. You guys make me a stronger person. Thank you for always believing in me and always being proud of your little/big sister.
I am extremely grateful for my nephew. You are my world, and if I had to give up anything so that you could be okay, I would do it without thinking twice. You came into my life right when I needed a reason to believe in myself. Four years ago, it almost didn’t seem possible that you would be here, and I’m blessed that God gave you that chance. You make our family better and it would never be the same without you.
I am lucky to have friends who despite the challenges have not given up on me. Going our separate ways after college was a huge deal for all of us, and we did it. But, even after two years, we are still holding on strong. Thank you, Michelle and Miguel. You two are great! Annie and Nicole, you two are the greatest thing college has brought me. I love you two so much! Thank you for being my family away from home.
I could go on and on about everything I’m thankful for, but stop and think about what you’re thankful for and what have you done about it? Let’s not wait until Thanksgiving to thank our families for everything they do for us, because one day it may just be too late.
