Well, this has been an interesting week, hasn’t it? We just celebrated Independence Day on Monday, then come Friday and we’ve lost so many lives from both police officers and protesters alike. Now this is where I want to voice my opinion, because we are all entitled to my opinion about these issues right?
From my perspective I’m not sure where I stand with the whole "#BlackLivesMatter/#BlueLivesMatter" issue. There's a good and a bad for both to be honest.
On one side, there is the Black Lives Matter movement. I really do stand with this movement, especially considering that in the recent years, technology has shown us that there are many things that need to come into the light on the discrimination of African Americans. I have also grown quite tired of the various acts of violence that have occurred to my fellow African Americans due to police brutality (and there are innocent people being targeted that are not the, so called, “thugs” people rule them out to be.) No one deserves this treatment and the worst part is that this has been occurring since Africans were brought to America. The only thing that I have against it is that many people in the movement are not fond of those in the LGBT community. The irony is that these are people who are oppressed and are also oppressing another group of people, and both have gone through some turmoil and need support.
On the other side of things, is the Blue Lives Matter movement. This movement is somewhat similar to the one of Black Lives. The men in blue do have struggles to face on duty, some of which may be very deadly. Also, just like there are good and bad people, there are good and bad cops. These bad cops are the ones that have had a long history of issues against people, especially African Americans. They are also the ones who tend to get away with their crimes with basically a slap on the wrist. As much as I could try to trust police officers, I still have a psychological fear where if I were to be stopped by a police car in the future that I might very well die. That is where the biggest problem is; I wouldn’t know who’s a bad cop as much as a cop would know if I’m a bad man. Perhaps there should be more background checks in place for our “protectors,” and more discipline for the bad ones, the same way they would to other people.
In all honesty, I wish that we didn’t have these racial barriers. It doesn’t make sense for one group of people have more power than another. Right now the African American community is struggling and so are Police forces for the good men they lost. We need to take a stand, people. We must realize that we all bleed the same and God made us all in his own image. We must reconcile and bring peace to our corrupt nation, one step at a time.
