Black Friday is a day of complete madness. Many stores open, if not the night of Thanksgiving, then at 12 a.m. Friday. Shoppers of all ages and experience levels enter into the realms of consumerist euphoria as they dig through piles and piles of marked-down items. While people wait in line for hours to get their hands on the latest electronics, and the occasional fight breaks out over the newest Xbox game, many different thoughts come to my mind. I consider myself to be a novice shopper, an amateur at best. So here are the stages of being an amateur shopper on Black Friday:
The day before:
When someone tells you that you're going Black Friday shopping and you are filled with an inexplicably high level of excitement.
Being woken up at 3 a.m. to begin your journey:
After emerging from your post-Thanksgiving food coma, you begin to ask yourself, "Do I really want to do this?"
Loading up on caffeine before you enter the madness:
Because you can't go in there unprepared.
Arriving just as the store opens so that you can join in on the friendly competition for sales:
There's nothing better than getting in on the excitement and rushing in with your closest friends.
Taking time to get acquainted with the new merchandise:
More than likely, the store has been torn to pieces by now, so you might as well get in there and see what everyone is so excited about.
Making sure you take a few laps around the store:
It's really important that you keep up the pace you started with to show that you are just as dedicated as the other shoppers.
Eventually, however, the real shoppers come into conflict with each other:
When the excitement switches to hostility quickly, you realize that you don't belong there at all.
And now you are starting to become a little frightened:
Who knew that shopping could get this violent?
But it's OK because you lost stamina a long time ago:
And you've only been there for 45 minutes..
So, you decide that Black Friday really isn't worth it and you return home for a nap:
Overall, Black Friday is meant for the true experts.
