Just like finishing a good book, ending a good binge-watching session can leave you feeling sad, lonely, and a little empty inside. It might also leave you wondering what you did with all your free time before you started obsessing over this TV show. This article is for everyone who is having a hard time recovering from his or her latest TV binge. I list these ideas in hopes that they save you some pain and grief.
1. Find a new TV show
This one is kind of a gamble because it can easily lead you back to the same place you currently find yourself. However, there is a reason they say nothing cures a [TV binging] hangover like the hair of the dog. (I recommend Quantico if you’re looking for suggestions. It was my recent binge but unfortunately I didn’t finish the first season before they took it off On Demand. I’m still in the mourning period.)
2.Read a Book
This is also a gamble because if you tend to get attached to characters you could further perpetuate the lonely, after-feeling of a binge watching/reading. Also, if people see you reading a book, they might assume you are educated and actually take the time to read in this technological day and age. This could be a good thing or a bad thing; it is up to you. On one hand: who wants to draw more attention to themselves, on the other: people will start to think you are smart and you should probably savor that for as long as you can.
3. Pour all of your new-found free time into adult coloring books
And by this I just mean fancy coloring books, not pornographic coloring books. Nowadays when you say “adult coloring books” people might be getting the wrong idea so it is always good to be clear. Unless of course you do mean “adult” coloring books when you say adult coloring books in which case you do you.
4. Start Sleeping More
Now, instead of staying up late to fit a few more episodes in before you go to bed, or waking up early to catch an episode or two before the day starts, just sleep in. Repeat after me: sleep is good. My current sleep goal is a regular 12 hours a night, just to give you an idea of a reasonable goal for yourself.
5. Check Facebook Every Five Minutes
It is hard to focus on how much you miss your TV show and the gaping whole it's left in your life when you check Facebook every chance you get! Why worry about whether Jess from New Girl will get back together with Nick when you can obsessively monitor all of your 900 closest friends and scroll through all the intimate details of their lives.
6. Inevitably find yourself obsessing over the show you finished, waiting in agony for the next season to come out, or deciding whether you are satisfied with the series finale.
^This is you finally breaking down over the realization that your binge marathon is actually over.
