College Roommates. The time has come in most people's lives where they have to find a college roommate, or they are living with one, two, or more roommates. Everyone dreads finding one in the beginning, due to the never ending horror stories we've all heard growing up. However, unlike most people, my experience took a different turn.
When I decided I was coming to Alabama, I was so worried about finding a roommate. I mean I've seen the movie "The Roommate," and I've heard my mom's stories about how dreadful her roommates were her freshman year. My luck I was going to either hate them or they were going to hate me. It wasn't until I messaged Hailee when that fear went away.
Out of all the things I could possibly say to her, I want to thank you. Thank you for changing who I was in the beginning of the year, and helping me find my way along this path we call college. You've taught me to laugh as much as I can in life, to not look at things so seriously, and to love people despite their flaws, because life simply is too short to do otherwise.
You've taught me that it's OK to eat a never-ending supply of Cookout corndogs, that it's OK to lay in bed instead of dragging myself to go to the gym, and that it's OK to cry over a dreadful boy and that they weren't worth it to begin with.The fact when one of us are out of town we FaceTime until we go to bed, that is a true sign we will be friends for the rest of our lives.
Most importantly, you've taught me to love myself like I never have before. To appreciate my flaws, and that it's OK to put yourself first, and the things you want to experience in college. You've taught me what a true friend is in life, someone who's there for you no matter what, and will do anything for them. You've made my perspective on friends change entirely.
You've made me realize life is about living in the moment, to do the random crazy things, and to experience college for yourself full heartedly before trying to find a boy. I, unlike a lot of people in college, have learned because of you that it's more fun to experience things with your friends instead of constantly trying to find happiness in boys and partying, and I'm forever grateful for that.
Thank you for helping me along this wild path called college, and being my helping hand for everything I do. From coming downstairs to get my food with me, going to the library until 3 a.m. even if you don't have homework, being mom on some of our nights out, it's all taught me to be a better me, and for that, I'm forever grateful. I really and truly have made a friend for life, and I'm so excited for the next 3 years and all the upcoming memories to be made.
