Big Man on Campus: Guys’ opportunity to strut their stuff while raising money for an amazing cause. If there is anything that is important to Zeta Tau Alpha it is our philanthropy, and Big Man on Campus is our favorite way to showcase that. Big Man on Campus is a male pageant where guys compete by dancing and testing out their best pick-up lines; all the while raising money and awareness for breast cancer. At the end of the night, the guy with the most points will be crowned as Baylor’s “Big Man on Campus.”
This is Zeta’s third year hosting the event, and junior Amy Hudson is excited to be prominent part of it for her first year. “This is the first time where I am a part of putting it all together. I got involved because I believe that Zeta’s philanthropy is so important and breast cancer is so relevant in today’s society” Hudson said. All past years have been successful, but Hudson expressed excitement for some new things going on this year. “I’m really excited about the things that we have changed for the show this year. First, we made a website where people can donate directly to a contestant of their choice. This goes toward the new prize we have added this year – Mr. Congeniality. The person who raises the most money by the time of the show wins Mr. Congeniality,” Hudson added.
Like any other school event, a lot of planning goes into perfecting BMOC—from getting sponsors for the event to figuring out the logistics of the show, there is a lot of preparation for BMOC and the committee has been planning since last April. As before mentioned, Zeta holds philanthropy dear, and this event is at the center of what we do to show awareness.
“This event is important because this philanthropy really does touch every heart. Even if someone isn’t personally affected by breast cancer, they probably know someone who is. The statistics are too large to ignore, breast cancer is national problem that needs attention,” Hudson said.
Whether you have been personally affected by breast cancer or not, it is an issue that deserves the utmost attention, and what better way to do it than to attend a pageant where not only the contestants but also you get a huge kick out of it?
