Big-Little Week In A Nutshell

Big-Little Week In A Nutshell

With the new pledge classes coming into Greek life, all of us initiated members who are ready to take on the responsibility of becoming a big are on the prowl. We meet up with several new members for lunch, dinner, coffee, or whatever we come up with to make us seem like the coolest humans in the world. After you’ve met a couple of pretty awesome new members, you meet ‘the one.’ Yeah, you know what I’m talking about: you have found the perfect little. You latch on and pray to who or whatever you pray to that she thinks you’d be the perfect big. Here is big-little week in a nutshell, from a big’s point of view.

1. You find out who your little is.

You get the phone call you’ve been waiting for from the new member director saying you got the little you wanted. Do you know what that means? That means she wanted you as a big.

2. You get her "favorites" list.

Do you need it? No, you already know everything about her not because you stalked her life (or maybe you did. I’m not judging) but because you paid attention to everything she told you every time you guys hung out.

3. You start crafting for her

And let’s face it: you are not the most crafty girl in the sorority. You spend the whole week crying over mod podge and glitter.

4. You try to trick her into thinking you are not her big.

She’ll spend all week trying to trick you into telling her you’re her big and you’ll be trying to convince her that somehow it didn’t happen that way. In some sick way it works and they will have an emotional breakdown after reveal because they believed all your lies and you will feel awesome because you actually kept something a secret for a whole week.

5. You go through phases of emotions.

First you are just completely excited and there is nothing that could make you happier than finally being a big. Then you start questioning how your little will react to you being her big. Will she be excited? Will she hate me? What if she doesn’t want me as a big? Then you go back to being excited and you just want to scream to the world how happy you are to have a little.

6. You are hungry.

Because you have just spent your last dollar on a Hershey bar because that is your little’s favorite candy. Your bank account has hit zero and you have no food in your fridge. You are debating on stealing your roommate’s last granola bar but you know she’s in the same boat as you.

7. You reveal yourself as her big

You’ve been waiting for this moment all week. You can finally post a picture of the two of you on Instagram for all of your followers to bask in the perfect big little duo. You can’t wait to be a mentor to her and help her through her new member period and be lifelong friends.

It’s stressful but rewarding. You may starve yourself so your little gets the most perfect gifts but she loves them so you can deal. You are an emotional wreck for most of the week but in the end you are the happiest big on the face of the earth. All the hardships aside, big-little week is the best week.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
