Finding Your Family: Big & Little Reveal

Finding Your Family: Big & Little Reveal

Now that the long endless days of recruitment have finally come to an end and the excitement of bid day has passed, the woman of Panhellenic are busy welcoming the new members into their houses and showing them how wonderful Greek life is.

As the new members settle in to their respected chapters and get comfortable with whatis sure to be the best decision of their life, the older women of the class above them start the open season on the hunt for littles.

Big/little is a timeless tradition that every new member looks forward to while going through recruitment. Not only are the new members excited for Big/little reveal, but also the active chapter women as well! Although every chapter does it differently it is always basically the same. At Alpha Chi, we spend three different weeks with a new member and at the end we choose or little! The following we is spent in totally devotion to our secret littles, spoiling them rotten and leaving little hints and clues as to who their bigs are. Of course some hints are more easily recognized then others.

When the week comes to an end the new members are called to the house in attire that is specific to their family. Sometimes this include a tide dye ensemble with mismatched shoes for others, a tutu and fairy wings. Whats next leads up to the revelation as the new members are lead into different rooms waiting for their big to jump out and surprise them! Every year the reveal becomes more special as the families continue to grow and the lines pictures become even more complicated.

Being the littlest is of course one of the best parts of being in a sorority, having a family that loves you and is so welcoming is a great feeling. However, becoming a big is an even greater feeling and responsibility. This year my class will all be gaining littles and we cannot wait to have someone to shower with gifts and guide through their new member period. Each big in Alpha Chi is responsible for guiding their little into an exceptional women that embodies or motto.

Traditions like these are what makes being a member of the Greek community so special and unique. Big/little reveal is a day that you will always remember looking back on your four year in college. The night that you finally find your family within the sorority will be a cherished memory, kept forever.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
