The first day of school. New classes and new year goals mostly unrealistic but still welcomed. For some college students a new semester is the ability to reinvent themselves or for others, it's just like any other day. Here are different college moods you will be seeing across campus.

Fresh Meat

Julia Smith

Ahhh, freshman, you know one when you see one. Either they are decked out in their new Greek letters, ridiculous pledge outfits, or simply that die-hard Bama fan who just wanted to make sure everyone knows that he goes to UA. Let the young ones enjoy their first day and know that blackboard confusion will be a dilemma for the next week. I was defiant that excited freshman ready to rep my letters and a northerner trying to fit in with Chacos that I now know are a trend that is so overrated.

The Celebrity Wannabe

Giphy

I'm all for self-love and if a fully contoured face makes you feel you're best, you do you. Alabama fall semester's climate is hot and humid and personally, I would not enjoy sitting in a classroom while my face melts. Plus your face will be covered by your laptop screen taking notes and no one will be able to see the new highlighter your rocking. There will always be that student who looked like they just walked off the red carpet.

The Lost Student

There will be a handful of students who will walk around campus and realize they passed Morgan Hall five times. Best advice, leave twenty minutes early to make sure you can at least find the quad.

I'm Late For The First Day

Giphy

The student who panics if they are seconds late to their class in fear of being forever shunned by a professor.

The Over-Prepared Polly

Giphy

That one student who has every colored pen, folder, binder, and needs to strategically place them on their desk even though the only information you will receive is on the first day is the syllabus.

The Summer Semester Survivors

Giphy

Honestly, so much respect to the students who spent their summer in the classroom and returning this fall. these students are not phased by the new semester and are simply doing the same routine just different classes.

MY College Mood!

I am super excited for the first day of school this time around. I definitely will do things differently than I did freshman year, but still, find myself getting excited about new pencils and class material! No matter what kind of college student you are, I hope you have a great semester filled with good grades and high aspirations!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
