Bid Day: Welcome home!

This time of year is known for sorority recruitment. It seems as if every college freshman lines up to find their new home away from home. The week is filled with overwhelming emotions, busy days, long nights, and forming new bonds. To the girls who have never gone through recruitment, or the girls who do not want to, that is OK, it is ultimately your choice, but going Greek is definitely one of the best decisions I ever made.

This year as sororities rotated between all the girls rushing, we may have found our rush crush, or our potential little. Others may have found a new best friend, and some may have not had very good luck. But one thing is for sure, all of us sororities came together to welcome these girls into a new home, and into something that is bigger than all of us.

As the week went on, the days seemed shorter, and what was once exhausting and awkward turned into fun and laughter. Before you knew it you couldn't imagine what it would be like without these girls, and without recruitment. You were having the time of your life. But you still had your eye on one thing: bid day! The Christmas for all sororities. It is one of the most exciting times for a sorority. With this day comes games, laughter, pictures, but best of all, new members.

As our new members came running towards my sorority, I remember feeling nervous. Nervous for if I would see any familiar faces. But, over my nerves came excitement. I was excited for what was to come, for all the friends I was about to make, but most of all, to share my sisterhood with many more awesome women.

For all of the girls that came running towards any sorority on bid day, I would like to say welcome. Welcome home! Welcome to a new beginning, welcome to a sisterhood, and welcome to something that is going to change your life for the better. You have no idea what is in store for you just within the next few months, but I promise it will be worth everything! This time will be everything you've ever hoped for and more. No matter what sorority you chose I know you have been brought home to where you belong, and you are going to do great things for your chapter. So get involved, share your sisterhood, and spread your philanthropy. You are in for the ride of your life, so I hope you cherish it as much as I do.

Once again, welcome home! We are so happy to have you!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
