BGSU Isn't That Great

Oh but it is...

BGSU Isn't That Great

I have heard too many times how much people think BGSU sucks. "It just isn't that great" or "it's nothing special" people say. Well, I hate to break it to you, but BGSU is great. In fact, it is literally the best and here is why:

1. Freddie & Frieda

We have two mascots here at BG which clearly makes us cool. You can count on seeing these spirited birds anywhere on campus. Freddie and Frieda are the soul of BGSU and are always having a good time together. Don't forget to get a picture with them, get a high five, or simply say hi!

2. Stuffed Breadsticks

BGSU is home of Campus Pollyeyes' famous stuffed breadsticks. These sticks of cheesy goodness can be stuffed even further with any of your favorite pizza toppings. One of these things can fill you up, and they are a must have...especially with the homemade ranch. YAS.

3. Professors

I was always told that college professors don't care about your success, and that they only care about their jobs. Well, not at BGSU. I am not afraid to ask questions in class or stay after to just chat. The professors care about your learning and always offer help and other useful resources.

4. Students

While visiting BGSU, the friendliness of the students really stuck out to me. In fact, that was one of the major reasons I decided on Bowling Green in the first place. Even now as a student, I am feel so welcomed and accepted each and every day by my fellow students.

5. Clubs and Organizations

You wanna join a sorority? You wanna be in a fitness group? You wanna participate in underwater basketweaving? BGSU is the place for you. BG has an unlimited amount of clubs and organizations available to everyone and for all majors. You can't go wrong.

6. School Spirit

Athletics are a MAJOR KEY at BGSU. You can expect a big crowd at all games, home or away. We take sports seriously which is why we are so successful. We do more than just games, though. We have a student section called the Falcon Fanatics that everyone can join. We also have special events on campus to celebrate the falcons and to get excited about game day such as Tailgate Thursday's at the dining halls or Falcon Friday.

7. Constant Improvements

Construction is always a thing a Bowling Green State University. You are guaranteed to hear some large machinery and have some dust fly in your nose. But we love it. Why? Because that means our campus is always getting bigger and better. Our university just build brand new, multimillion dollar Greek housing, a new Media & Communications building, and we are in the process of renovating a residence hall. Take a look at our campus, you're sure to be impressed.

8. Bowling Green, OH

Finally, perhaps the best part of BGSU is being apart of Bowling Green, OH. People get it wrong when they say it is a town outside a college. It is most definitely a college inside one hell of a town. Bowling Green is known for the arts, the food, the people, and the spirit. The relationship between the city and the university is an amazing thing and I am so happy to be apart of it.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

For many undergraduates across the nation, the home stretch has begun. Only one more semester remains in our undergraduate career. Oh, the places we will go! For the majority of college seniors, this is simultaneously the best and worst year out of the past four and here’s why.

1. The classes you are taking are actually difficult.

A schedule full of easy pottery throwing and film courses is merely a myth on the average campus. With all of those prerequisites for the upper-level courses and the never-ending battle you fight each year during registration for limited class seats, senior year brings with it the ability to register for the final courses you need to fulfill your major. Yet, these are not the easy entry level courses. These are the comprehensive, end of major, capstone courses designed to apply the knowledge from all your previous courses, usually in the form of an extensive research paper or engaged learning project. The upside is you actually probably really enjoy these classes but alas there is no room for slackers here.
