To My Best Friend

Just a story about the best friendship I could ever imagine.

To My Best Friend
Sedona Goebel

I have had a lot of really good friendships so far in my life. I have met people from all different places in the world and connected with tons of people I never thought I would enjoy being around.

All of these relationships were amazing, and I always learned something from them or became a better person because of them. But I think my best friendship by far started on the third or fourth day of sixth grade.

I heard that there was a girl moving to my school from the same school I had gone to in Germany. I was so excited to get to hang out with someone that would totally understand what I was talking about when I talked about Germany, the school, and places around it. I found out from the school that she wouldn't be in my class, so I wrote a letter explaining that it would probably be easier for her to adjust to the new school if she had someone around her that understood what she was going through, being the new kid and everything.

Thanks to my letter we were put in the same class! Her first day was a few days after school started and she was so shy when she came into the class. I, being a total extrovert, was super excited to talk to her and was 100 percent ready to be her full tour guide to the new school. I immediately "took her under my wing" and we became pretty good friends. We had lots of other friends, but we spent quite a bit of time together and we really understood each other.

The funny thing was though, we were total opposites, I am outgoing and love talking to everyone, she is quiet, but will talk when talked to. I tend to openly communicate and show how I feel about something, but if I want to know what she feels it takes some asking. These are some examples, but there are many other opposites between us, but even so we have gotten along perfectly for years.

I think that we became really close after seventh grade and then there after we have just gotten closer and since then she isn't shy around me at all. We became especially in high school even though we haven't had any classes together. We do things on the weekend, take small trips together and plan almost everything with the other included.

I really never had a friendship this close before, and I don't know what I would do without it. She has grown so close to me I feel that we are almost sisters. Even though we sometimes get annoyed with each other because of our different personalities, we have never had a real fight that I can remember (except maybe when she cheated in Uno, but that's another story).

I am so thankful for this awesome friendship and hope that everyone else can have that with one of their friends. Someone that you can tell things you would never tell anyone else, they are always your number one invite for a party or event even if you're not the one planning it. This experience and relationship has taught me a lot over that last few years, because she is the one person that will always tell it how it is with no sugar coats and although it stings a bit she always says things I need to hear and teaches me a lesson. Being around each other is just totally carefree and fun, because we know everything about each other, so what is there to hide? And that feeling of being totally you is so amazing. A friend that really sticks by you through everything is hard to find, but they really are priceless.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
