Spring break is finally here! This break feels like it has been a long time coming, even though it’s only been two months since the last break. It has finally started feeling a little bit more like spring on Long Island and I’m super excited about it. The sun is shining, the weather forecast is above 50 for at least the next 10 days, and a week off from classes is exactly what we all need after midterms. Spring break isn’t always all fun and sun. There are definitely some downsides to this well-needed break. But we’re going to start with the best things about break, anyway.
Relaxing.
Spring break is the time to decompress. Midterms are finally (hopefully) over for a little while, at least. This is a whole week to just veg out and take some me time. Step away from your technology for a bit and just chill out. We don’t have another break until May, so use this one wisely.
Catching up on sleep.
I know that I definitely don’t sleep enough during the class week. Spring break is a perfect time to fix your sleep schedule and try to catch up on some much needed sleep. Though, it’s also very possible that you’ll screw up your sleep schedule more. But that’s fine too. You do you.
Traveling.
If you have the means, spring break is a great opportunity to travel. And I don’t mean that you have to fly across the world or anything. Take some day trips, find cool places nearby that you can get to in a day and just explore. There are a lot of cool things that you can do without going very far, you just need to look for them.
And, now, onto the worst things about spring break.
It’s too short.
I feel like a week is just not enough time to de-stress after the last two months. This semester has been crazy packed with exams and presentations and internship duties. Two weeks would be ideal, but alas.
Homework.
You would think that our professors would want us to come back to classes relaxed and ready for the rest of the semester. But some of them definitely don’t care about that. Hopefully you don’t have much work to do over the break, but I wish you all the best if you do.
Losing all motivation for the rest of the semester.

I know that after spring break, last year, all I could think about was how close summer is. Once we come back from break we’ll only have about six weeks of classes. It will (hopefully) stay warm and distractions will be everywhere.
Keep your head up and keep working hard for the rest of the semester. We’ll all make it through these coming weeks together. And enjoy your break!
