7 TED Talks That Will Help With Your Mental Health

In This Article:

If you are trying to procrastinate studying for your next exam in a helpful, informative, inspiring way, or you just want to learn a thing or two, TED talks can be even better than Netflix (just as binge-worthy too). TED talks are typically given by an inspiring speaker who likely has published a book in their respective field, or conducted research, or worked for an organization, or basically, any person who has made a significant impact on the world in some way.

Here are 7 TED talks that offer some wisdom into bettering your mental health (which let's be real, we can all use some advice on that):

"The power of vulnerability"

I have watched this video a multitude of times because it reminds me again and again about how vulnerability can help yourself be a better you and be better to other people. This speaker is very relatable, and it's pretty funny too.

"There's no shame in taking care of your mental health"

It's easy to feel guilty about taking a day off or staying in on a Saturday night, but sometimes you have to do what is best for you, and your mental health. This TED talk will help you feel less guilty about those things, and enjoy your Netflix (or TED talk) binge nights!

"Don't suffer from your depression in silence"

Though mental health is slowly becoming a more talked about topic, it is still very scary to open up about any problems you may have with your mental health. This TED talk may encourage you to take the appropriate steps in order to help you open up, and receive the aid you may need.

"How to stay calm when you know you'll be stressed"

This TED talk is amazing to watch before you start studying for a big test, presentation, or whatever else is adding stress to your life. Everyone gets stressed from time to time, and any tips you can get to help with stress are helpful.

"The happy secret to better work"

Understanding psychology not only is an interesting topic to learn about, but also can really help with your mental health. This TED talk will help you to be more productive with your work, which is definitely needed for most college students to learn.

"Older people are happier"

I really found this TED talk interesting because it is easy to feel scared about the future. Feelings feel permanent and everlasting, but every feeling is temporary! As you get older, you are more likely to feel happier, and this is a very reassuring sentiment for when you bomb that exam, and you feel like you're never going to forget about it.

"Mental health for all by involving all"

The most important aspect of mental health is knowing that anyone can have problems with theirs, and you are never alone. There are so many resources out there to help those with mental health problems, and for those who do not, there are many opportunities to get involved and make a difference.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
