The Best Singers You've Never Heard Of

There's a whole music scene happening that you probably don't even know about. Don't get your Coachella flower crown in a twist, I'm here to help.

Everyone knows there's indie, pop, punk, hipster, country, rap, R&B, EDM, dubstep and countless other kinds of music. But there's so much music that's really only available to people who spend a lot of their lives on the Internet: YouTube music.

There's a whole movement on the internet of people trying to get famous on YouTube. Justin Bieber did it. Darren Criss got his role on Glee when the producers saw him in "A Very Potter Musical" by the YouTube account StarKid. There are so many more.

Here's just a taste of the best musical artists you've probably never heard of. In no particular order.

Savannah Outen.

Savannah has a beautiful, smooth voice. Her covers and her original stuff are equally beautiful. I could probably listen to her all day. My favorite cover song she's done would be a toss-up between Lady Gaga's "You & I" and her cover of Aerosmith's "I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing."

Alex Goot.

Alex sounds like he should already be on the radio. His songs are beautiful, catchy, and fun. He does a mix of covers and original songs. I have his In Your Atmosphere album, and I recommend it to everyone. His sound is light and fun, but powerful. I recommend listening to his original song "Lightning" if you're new to Alex.

Against the Current.

ATC is an amazing group that nods to punk and pop with its own twist. They've gone on several tours and have albums out on iTunes. The lead singer, Chrissy Costanza, is small but her voice is powerfully reminiscent of Paramore's front woman Hayley Williams and Evanescence's Amy Lee. My favorite original song by them is "Another You (Another Way)."

Kurt Hugo Schneider.

Schneider is a musical Renaissance man. He can play instruments, sing, direct, film and so much more. He's worked with countless YouTube artists and his videos are always amazing. I recommend his channel in general. You can't go wrong.

Sam Tsui.

You've all probably heard Tsui sing, even if you didn't know it was him. He did that beautiful mashup with Casey Breves of Ed Sheeran's "Thinking Out Loud" and Sam Smith's "I'm Not the Only One." Tsui has a beautiful, clear, emotional voice that does tribute to the original songs while still having his own flair.

Christina Grimmie.

Grimmie's voice is one-of-a-kind. It's powerful and changebale. She can sing light, dainty melodies or deeper, powerful ballads. She can play the piano as well and accompanies herself in all her videos. She does a mix of covers and original music.

This is just a taste of the talent that's waiting on the internet. Once you start link-hopping on all these talented artists' pages, you'll be amazed at what you can find. There's a whole wealth of untapped talent out there just waiting for the right fans to find it.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
