Tampa Bay is praised for a lot of things, but its prime running spots definitely don’t get enough credit. From nature preserves to sandy white beaches to downtown perfection, Tampa Bay has it all. Fellow runners, lace up your Nikes and give these wonderfully unique routes a try.
The Dunedin Causeway
This locations epitomizes Florida’s beachy atmosphere. Choose your spot on the causeway or park at the end and run its 3.12 mile length. This concrete route is constantly used by runners, walkers, bikers and skaters. It’s perfect for those that love to run near the beach, but not on the sand.
Edgewater Drive
This route is just beautiful. Run in the direction of Clearwater beach, with beautiful Dunedin homes on your left and the Dunedin Channel on your right. This is a run you definitely don’t want to miss around sunset.
The Pinellas Trail
This route stretches from Tarpon Springs to St. Petersburg boasting a whopping 38.2 miles. Again this concrete trail is home to bikers, walkers, joggers, skaters and everyone else under the sun. Although 38.2 miles would be quite the feat, there are many places along the trail to park and run.
John Chestnut Park
This hidden gem, tucked away in Palm Harbor, Florida, is the perfect running spot for nature lovers. Drive on in and enjoy running through the tree-lined park, crossing over boardwalks and bridges, and eventually running beside Lake Tarpon.
Clearwater Beach
If you aren’t afraid to run on the sand, then Clearwater Beach is the place for you. This world-renowned sugar-sand is easy on the shins and knees so it’s ideal for runners looking for a low-impact surface. The beach stretches for about 2.5 miles on the Gulf so it’s a perfect route for a quick morning run.
Bayshore Boulevard
In South Tampa, this is a runners place to be. A beautiful path stretches along the Hillsborough Bay providing runners with entertainment from a combination of nature and a beautiful shot of downtown. The sidewalk stretches for around 4.5 miles and contains a variety of other amenities for runners. Check it out yourself to see what else Bayshore has to offer.
Courtney Campbell Causeway Trail
This 10.5 mile concrete trail connecting Pinellas and Hillsborough county provides runners with a beautiful view of Tampa Bay as they enjoy an afternoon workout. Parking is available at more than one spot along the trail so it is fairly easy to access.
