Good queer cinema is so hard to find these days! Ever since they took the “LBGT Movie” button off of the Netflix Browse section, I’ve been really struggling to pick out some good quality queer movies to watch! That is why I have compiled a list of my favorite (and therefor, probably the best) queer movies your enjoyment during this lovely summer season.
1. "The Way He Looks"
This movie is a total heart warming coming-of-age romantic comedy that will be sure to make you cry and laugh! (Netflix)
2. "Shelter"
Definitely my favorite gay movie since I first came out to myself. Even though the actors are super straight in real life, they maintain an electric connection throughout the film. Truly five stars worthy.
3. "Beautiful Thing"
Another incredible movie that captures what it’s like to come out as queer at a young age.
4. "Latter Days"
This movie will rip your heart out and then kindly put it back together with tape and love.
5. "Maurice"
A film that focuses on what life was like for queer men in the early 20th century... it is very interesting and super cute, too!
6. "RENT"
Because how can I make a queer list without Rent? (Netflix)
7. "Big Eden"
This movie feeds off of a lot of gay stereotypes, but follows a cutesie love story of a man coming back to his childhood neighborhood and trying to re-kindle a love affair from high school. (Netflix)
8. "Bloomington"
This movie is very dramatic, but it’s okay because of how attractive the main characters are. (Netflix)
9. "Boy Meets Girl"
Definitely my favorite film hands down… and the best part? The trans woman main character is actually played by a trans woman! (Netflix)
10. "Tomboy"
This foreign, independent film is wonderfully executed and casted… but beware: only watch if you need a good cry! (Netflix)
11. "Anatomy of a Love Seen"
Another beautifully made film that’s best watch when you need a good cry. (Netflix)
12. "Not Another Gay Movie"
Very explicit, so don’t watch this movie in front of your parents… but it’s incredibly funny and has a happy ending! (Netflix)
BLACK LIST:
1. "Prayers for Bobby"
Watch this only if your heart likes being destroyed.
2. "Milk"
Watch if you like being sad.
3. "Boys Don't Cry"
Plot twist: you totally 100 percent will cry while watching this film.
