The best punchline from the Republican front this week did not occur in CNN's GOP Debate, but rather, in a little bar in Mackinac Island, Michigan where Marco Rubio's deputy campaign manager, Rich Beeson, was accused of punching Rand Paul's national political director, John Yob.
Both Beeson and Yob were in Mackinac Island for a Republican conference on Thursday Night where GOP candidates were scheduled to speak that weekend. Both men were at a nearby bar named Horn's when the altercation occurred. Security footage from Horn's clearly shows Beeson land a nice jab straight to Yob's face.
Following the incident Yob posted this on his Facebook page:
"Last night I went to a bar on Mackinac Island for the GOP Mackinac Conference. I ran into a guy named Rich Beeson, who frankly I didn't even know who it was at first because he isn't relevant in our political world. Anyway, he is Marco Rubio's national campaign manager. He literally physically assaulted me by punching me in the face. The state police are looking for him. I have it on video, from multiple angles. This will play out in the national media in the next few hours."
Beeson has not responded to questions about the incident. However, a Rubio spokesman, Alex Conant, has said that the Rubio Campaign is "aware of the media reports and seeking more information about what happened."
Paul's campaign has also not commented on the event, but various news sources are reporting that the confrontation was "personality based."
Since the altercation, Yob has filed an assault charge against Beeson with the Mackinac Police Department. In an interview with Politico police Chief Brett Riccinto confirmed that there was a an assault complaint made, but denied making an official statement until more evidence on the situation emerges.
