What’s college life without pizza? In a town like Chapel Hill, North Carolina, it’s university students that dial up the pizza delivery number and hit the late-night pizza spots on weekdays and weekends alike. Now, there is always a need for a pizza rating or at least an explanation of the best time to go to each spot! Although this is only my second semester in the Hill, I feel like I could give this list a go!
1. Mellow Mushroom
So, I have to start with my favorite pizza in town, and perhaps in the nation as well. Anybody can testify to the almost magical taste of Mellow crust; it’s the only kind of pizza to which I actually look forward to eating the crust. There are even appetizer pretzel bites on the menu that basically consist of the famous crust with some rock-hard salt on top. It’s the perfect place to hit for a low-key and delicious slice of pizza.
2. Artisan Pizza Kitchen
This pizza is very tasty and comes in practical sizes! Plus, it’s one of the few pizza places on the east side of Franklin Street.
3. Italian Pizzeria III
Commonly referred to as IP3, this pizza joint is as authentic as it gets in Chapel Hill! The smells and tastes of Italy are everywhere, even among the outdoor seating!
4. Old Chicago Chapel Hill
This is the best place to get some good ole Chicago-style pizza. Just seeing them come out of the oven makes anyone’s mouth water. There are great pasta and burger options as well!
5. Toppers Pizza
This pizza is the perfect "topper" after any long night out, especially if you like to dunk your pizza in a wide array of savory sauces.
6. I Love New York Pizza
Another great late-night option, or just any time really, this pizza joint always hits the spot.
7. Top of the Hill
Although not commonly regarded as a pizza place, the flatbreads are my favorite item on their menu! Nothing like some fresh avocado on a thin cheesy pizza slice!
