The Best Parts Of Greek Conference

It's one of the most rewarding trips you can take.

The Best Parts Of Greek Conference

This past weekend, I was lucky enough to attend Greek Conference with 18 of my sisters in Alpha Sigma Alpha, 115 Greeks from Central Michigan University and around 600 other greeks from different parts of the country. The Christian conference in Indianapolis is one of the most rewarding trips that a Greek who is a christian, or even those who are investigating their faith can take. While there are so many amazing things that happen at Greek Conference, here are the top 10 occurrences that almost everyone faces at GC!

1. The long Drive

Okay, so this technically isn't at the conference yet. But it's the time you get to spend with your sisters or brothers jamming to music in the car getting pumped up for what the weekend has in store.

2. First General Session

If it's your first time at Greek Conference, get ready. The rampage to get into the room and into the front rows of the general session is something exhilarating (and a little bit scary to be honest). Here, you get to know your speaker and start your journey of faith for the weekend.

3. First track

Going into your first track you're wondering so many things. Is this the track for me? Who's going to sit at my table? What are going to do? But all of the questions wash away when you dive into your discussions. When you're table group and table leader are so awesome, you won't want to leave and you can't wait to get back to your group the next day.

4. First night

Sleep? Forget that, you're on a Jesus high. You can't stop talking to your sisters or brothers about what you learned that night and how excited you are for what is in store the next day.

5. Waking up early

It hits you like a train. But staying up late talking was still probably one of the best decisions you've made this weekend (well besides coming). Getting ready might be a slow process, but as soon as you're in your tracks you're ready to go.

6. Breaktime

This is ultimate decision making time. Are you going to eat quick and sleep? Or are you going to eat quick and explore? Or if you're really feeling it maybe you'll catch up on a little bit of homework. No matter what you do, going to explore to find some food in Indy can be the adventure of a life time.

7. Prayer Room

If you were able to experience this room, you know that there are really no words to explain how truly refreshing and perfect this room is. Knowing you are loved by God is truly an incredible feeling.

8. General Session #2

This is where all the feels are starting to happen. Being able to witness hundreds of students who are following their faith just like you is an incredible experience. It is easy to leave the room refreshed and open to everything your faith has to offer. This event is easily the best of the night.

9. Dance Party

If you're into getting dressed up for a them, this is the place for you. For this year, grabbing our best Mathletes and Athletes costumes was so much fun (and a little bit interesting). Hundreds of Greeks dancing in one room to Justin Bieber's "Sorry" will probably be one of the best things I've ever seen.

10. Saying goodbye

This is probably the hardest and saddest part of the whole weekend. You have to leave the conference and go back to school, but that doesn't necessarily mean that you have to go back to living the way you were before. Greek Conference is a life changing experience and leads others to follow a new path after leaving.

Until next year, Greek Conference. I'll miss you.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Whether you met your new love interest online, through mutual friends, or another way entirely, you'll definitely want to know what you're getting into. I mean, really, what's the point in entering a relationship with someone if you don't know whether or not you're compatible on a very basic level?

Consider these 21 questions to ask in the talking stage when getting to know that new guy or girl you just started talking to:

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
