I’m assuming that many people’s New Year's resolutions include something along the lines of wanting to get fit. Well, you can toss those resolutions in the trash because we all know that at the end of 2018 you’re going to be sitting on a couch eating lightly salted potato chips anyway.

So, why not watch some amazing shows while you’re laying around like a potato? Here are five TV shows that come highly recommended (via me.) Trust me, you won’t regret binge-watching these shows until the morning.

1. "Game of Thrones"

Literally no explanation needed here. There is something for everyone in this show. Do you like drama, violence, action, politics, magic, zombies, dragons, and romance?

Chances are you said yes to at least one of those categories, and if so, this show is for you (or basically everyone because who doesn’t like dragons and zombies.) Be prepared for a formidable challenge though, because you have seven seasons to watch. Rated M for Mature!

2. "The Crown"

This is a Netflix original, so you’re going to need to have Netflix but the show is so worth it. The acting is amazing, the historical accuracy is perfect and the show in general is a masterpiece. If you’re into history and like period dramas make sure to watch this. If you didn’t know already, this show is about Queen Elizabeth II’s reign. Rated M for Mature!

3. "Peaky Blinders"

Another Netflix original, this show is about a gang called the Peaky Blinders that dominated Birmingham, England in the 1920s. It’s funny, insanely violent, crazy, and the scenes are filmed so artistically. You will be talking like Tommy Shelby at the end of this show.

This show is also for history junkies (do you see a theme with me?) although it’s not really historically accurate with the actual Peaky Blinders gang. If you love the Roarin’ 20s and all the opulence, the prohibition, and the gangs, you will love this show. Also rated M for Mature.

4. "Orange Is The New Black"

This show is about a woman named Piper who gets sent to a sort-of jail and experiences life as an inmate with other inmates. It’s funny and really sad at the same time, just a rollercoaster of emotions. I like how the story is not just about Piper, but about the individual stories of each inmate.

At the end, you feel like you really connect and sympathize with all the characters and support the inmates as they tackle the challenges of not being able to see their family, harassment from guards, etc. And, it’s rated M for Mature and is another Netflix original.

5. "Parks and Recreation"

This is an oldie but a goodie. I usually tend to gravitate towards more serious, dramatic shows, so I’m not really a “Friends” show-type I’d say. Don’t get me wrong, "Parks and Recreation" is nothing like "Friends", but it’s way more comedic than all these other shows. "Parks and Recreation" just grounds you in reality and the monotony of office life while making it hilarious and funny as well.

The show is about a bureaucrat named Leslie Knope trying to make her small town of Pawnee, Indiana a better place while dealing with government challenges. It really makes you appreciate the small things and even small government, while making you cry with laughter. This show is rated TV-14.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
