September was a huge month for new singles and album releases. For me, with school starting - among other things - this past month has been chaotic to say the least. Music helps me through the craziest days, whether that means calming me down or giving me some much needed energy. This past month, however, I noticed the astounding amount of releases from big names in the music industry. So, here it is, my ranking of the best tracks released in September.
12. Leona Lewis "I Am"
We all know Leona Lewis from her hit single, “Bleeding Love” but that seems like forever ago. After she dropped from Simon Cowell’s label, she struggled to find another outlet for making music. This song wasn’t necessarily bad, but it wasn't good either.
11. Taylor Swift "Wildest Dreams"
Okay, so this song wasn’t released in September but the video was. And to be honest, I was underwhelmed. Don’t get me wrong, though. It made the list for a reason but songs like "Blank Space" left me with a more Tay Swift-y vibe. The video is, of course, incredible but the song on its own? I was not that impressed.
10. Five Seconds Of Summer "Jet Black Heart"
This song kind of gave me a Paramore-y, alt vibes. Wait, aren’t they a boy band? I’m confused but I’m also not complaining. I’m a fan of this new sound from them. You keep doing you, 5SOS.
9. Sia "Alive"
Once you get past the funky cover art, this song’s upbeat power vocals and its haunting tone leave you somewhat disoriented. But it is catchy. Personally, I just wanted to tap my foot and bob my head to this one.
8. Disclosure "Omens" & "Magnets"
Ugh. I couldn’t pick just one for this album. Disclosure’s electronic vibe is always amazing but when you add some of the best names in music like Lorde and Sam Smith - it's spectacular.
7. Sam Smith "Writing's On The Wall"
Oh, Sam, you hopeless romantic. I know, I picked Sam Smith twice in a row, what is that about? For me, he’s always on the list but he falls somewhere in the middle. He is one of those artists you don’t want to like but always end up listening to.
6. Drake and Future "Jumpman"
DISCLAIMER : I many have been influenced to put this song on the list because I saw Drake live and he was INCREDIBLE. But this song has risen through the charts in the matter of a couple days and I think it deserves some credit. I mean it’s Drake.
5. One Direction "Infinity"
After the tragic news of Zayn’s leaving and the band’s break for a year, a lot of One Direction fans are eagerly awaiting the new album, "Made In the A. M." This little sneak peak was just enough to keep me interested in what they have in store for their first album post-Zayn. :(
4. Troye Sivan "FOOLS"
I have to admit, this one surprised me. Not being the biggest Troye Sivan fan, I thought the album was nothing special. But my roommate convinced me to listen to this song and now I can’t stop. His lyrics combined with his raw voice left me with a vivid picture in my mind and gave the clear feeling he is describing in the song.
3. Rudimental (feat. Ed Sheeran) "Lay It All On Me"
I have a slight addiction to any and every Ed Sheeran song. So when I heard Rudimental, who he toured with him for some time last year, was releasing a song featuring Ed - I had to listen. And I was not disappointed. Ed’s voice just carries the song and, I may be biased, but his range is truly incredible and this song encouraged me to listen to more by Rudimental.
2. Charlie Puth "One Call Away"
OH MY GOD. I love this song so much. Charlie Puth may be one of the most underrated artists in music right now. He has not one but TWO of the biggest songs of the summer, “See You Again” by Wiz Khalifa from the movie "The Fast and the Furious 7" and “Marvin Gaye” featuring Meghan Trainor. Personally, when I listened to these songs on the radio or Spotify, I focused on the stars I already knew. But when I heard "One Call Away", I knew why those songs were hits. He's just so good. 10/10, I definitely recommend. (P.S. I may be listening to it right now.)
1. Lana Del Rey "Honeymoon" Album
What can I say. It’s Lana Del freaking Rey.
