More than ever we are connected to our devices and sharing content with each other, whether it be status updates, videos, funny pictures or other peoples' statuses. One show has taken advantage of that and turned it into a hilarious game show and it may be the best late night show you probably aren't watching.
"@midnight" is a game show on Comedy Central and basically three comedians take the stage and have to earn points by giving a funny or best response to the question asked. The game show itself is very unique because it has a varying topic per episode, so while other shows like "Jeopardy" and "Wheel of Fortune" have set ways the game is played, "@midnight" just throws that out the window and does it's own thing.
The show is actually genuinely funny because when you get three comedians (four counting host Chris Hardwick) talking about trends on the Internet and memes and the latest daily dose of whatever Trump is doing (the elections are probably going to be a big part of the show to poke fun at in the near future) it becomes a riot of sorts.
Now the show does have reoccurring games like 11:59 and 59 Seconds that usually opens the show as a cold open. They also have a game called #HashtagWars where a theme is given (say the hashtag is #SongTitlesRuinedWithOneExtraWord) and the contestants give the funniest responses they think of (viewers can join in on this via Twitter, and the best one from the previous night get mentioned on the show). They also have a variety of other games as well, but the purpose is, when it comes down to the top two contestants, on the last segment FTW, or For The Win, the comedians have to get the audience to laugh at their response more, and the winner "wins the Internet." You can see some examples of these games below (note: May be NSFW, so be aware).
Panderdome (usually a politics news related topic):
#HashtagWars (a reoccurring game and this Thursday's was #GuyFieriMovies).
You get the jist; it's all kind of random, but it all works in a way. The show itself runs Monday throughThursday, so unfortunately, it won't be on when most college kids are up doing homework or anything else, but on those days it is on at 12/11 CST, take time to stay up and watch it. It's a quirky show that is funny. While it may not appeal to everyone's comedic tastes, it still serves as a show that may get a chuckle or two out of you. It is, in reality, the game show of what we love to spend our time on, the Internet, and it uses that advantage to be one of the most unique shows on late-night TV.
