No one in our family ever thought about adding another dog to our lives, but with you it came easy. We walked into the room where they were keeping you and all your siblings and my eyes immediately landed on you. A dorky, little fellow who clearly couldn't walk straight and ended up falling right in between my feet. One look up at me with your puppy-dog eyes and you were mine. Even after you peed in my bed that first night and continued to whine at 4 a.m. every night after, you were still the cutest dog I had ever seen.
You were there through my roughest years where every day I would come home after school and be upset about everything that was going on. Whether it was my friends, school work or just simple stress, you continued to greet me every day at the door, excited to see me even when I may not have been excited to see you.
While you were there for me on my darkest days, you were also there on my good days. Car rides were always a must for the two of us after a nice day at work, school or maybe even a good day of lounging around. Sometimes we'd even grab some Dunkin, an iced coffee for me and a donut for you.
You were the kind of dog that everyone wants their friends to be like. Loving, caring, understanding. Those are just some of the simple things that you were to me. Coming home to someone who was excited to see me every day was one of the best feelings in the world and there's nothing like a happy dog jumping all over when he's missed you after you've been away for a few weeks at school.
So, to the dog who has forever left a paw print on my heart, thank you. Thank you for being there when I needed someone to cry on. Thank you for being excited with me when I got accepted into college. Thank you for loving me when I couldn't love myself. Thanks for cuddling me at night and protecting me when people came to the door. Thank you for being the silly, dorky pup that you always have been.
And because I have never said it enough, I love you for all that you have been to me and everything that you've done for me. Thank you for always being there when it was needed and even more for just being there, you are truly a human's best friend.
