To My Best Friend's Mom For Welcoming Me In With Open Arms

Thank you.

Thank you for treating me like another daughter and an equally important member of your family. I will forever value you for giving me my best friend, a human who I could not live or function without. Just in case I do not say it enough, thank you for the many times you have stepped up to the plate in my life. I am grateful for your wisdom and perspective. You are always there, always listening, and always loving. Whenever I'm going through something - anything at all - you have my back and understand, which is the greatest gift.

As I reflect, I have come to realize that my most valuable friendship would not be possible without you. This amazing human that you call your child brings me irreplaceable joy and happiness. Your child is someone that I will continue to hold near and dear to my heart forever. I hope you know that I care for you both deeply. You have been there to watch and foster the key relationship in my life and manage to take me under your wing all at the same time. My life would have turned out so differently if it were not for the both of you. I cannot express how special you are to me, but I will continue to try.

First, I must apologize. Out of all of the years that I have known both of you, I've probably caused some sleepless nights due to loud laughter, tears, anger, or a long range of emotions that I would discuss with my best friend. God forbid we were ever fighting with each other. I know that must have been difficult for you to handle. Luckily, we would never be separated for long, and I am sure you had something to do with that, so again, thank you!

Additionally, thank you for making your home my home. I cherish being able to just come over and hang out with my best friend so openly and comfortably. I also enjoy the fact that I have been able to stay so close with your family in addition to my own. The most special moments I have at your house with my best friend are ones that I will remember fondly. I look forward to making new memories with my second family each time I am with you.

You have become my second mom. Thank you a million times over for all of the conversations, love, encouragement, and driving trips that you have put into my most significant friendship. With both me and your own child, you have shown incredible kindness and sincerity. I know that when we both come home from being away, you are equally as excited to see us both, and that warms my heart beyond words. I love you so much, and I feel so lucky to call you a member of my family.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
