It’s almost here, that spooky and creative time of the year. Get ready 'cause Halloween is on its way! Whether you are the trick-or-treater or the one handing out the tricks or treats, it’s always nice to get in the Halloween spirit with some decorations. Here is a list of the five best do-it-yourself Halloween decorations for indoors and out:

Wall Spider Web

This decoration is simple and awesome. All you need is a ball of yarn and some double-sided tape. As per the instructions, you will place multiple pieces of tape onto your wall and form the shape of a spider web with long strings of the yarn. It’s a simple, cheap, and cool way to dress up your walls for the season.

Lawn Ghosts

All you need to create some spooky ghosts on your lawn are hand-sized Styrofoam balls, a sturdy fence or garden stake, and white fabric or cheesecloth. Simply position the stake in the ground wherever you want, place the Styrofoam ball onto the top of the stake, and drape the cloth on the ball. To keep the cloth in place, you may want to tape the fabric and ball together a bit so it doesn’t float away and you’re left with a lollipop on your lawn. Having a lightweight cloth sway in the wind gives the illusion that your lawn ghosts are dancing. What a cool way to decorate your house for trick-or-treaters.

Candle Light Cups

For these cute and fun decorations, you need LED tealights or glowsticks, a black marker, and some plastic cups. I bet you already know where this is going. Simply draw faces or designs on the cups (make sure they’re upside down!) with the marker, turn on the fake candle, and cover the light with the cup. Et voila! Easy and cute Halloween Cup Lights!

Paper Bag Lights

These are really cool. Drawing on the same idea as the Candle Light Cups, these decorations use brown paper bags, tealights, and markers or stamps to light up walkways and stairs indoors and outdoors. Draw or stamp designs onto the paper bags and light them up! You can get really creative with these bags, beckoning trick-or-treaters to your front door or printing cool--but spooky--art designs onto them.

Flying Bats

You can get quite creative with these decorations. All you need is some black cardstock, scissors, and tape. Cutting out bat shapes from the cardstock, folding their center slightly, and taping them as a flock to your walls can look amazing. It’s a simple way to celebrate Halloween.

It’s always fun to get in the Halloween spirit. Give these ideas a try if you’re looking for economical, simple decorations that are intriguing and creative.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
