It's that special time of year again; everyone is snuggled up on the couch with their cell phone at arms reach, ready to tell the whole world (or at least their 1000+ friends on Facebook) that they are one of many who are watching the Oscars.
For those of you who didn't have your eyeballs glued to the television last night, let me inform you of the highlights. This year, Neil Patrick Harris, otherwise known as Barney on #HIMYM, hosted and wow, did he put on a show! Especially when he walked with his pants down! Yup, nothing on but his boxer briefs!
Then when you thought this generation had hit rock bottom, Tegan and Sara + the Lonely Island whipped out a very colorful song from the Lego Movie named "Everything is Awesome." Everything. Is. Awesome. That's the real name of an actual song. And it was performed at the Oscars. That's seven whole minutes of my life that I will never get back ... thanks, guys. I did like the baby Oscar lego awards though — very nice touch.
It's funny watching these award shows. What you wouldn't give to be surrounded by all the beauty and glamour — instead of being surrounded by your dog and a dozen decorative pillows while wear your penguin pajamas ... or is that just me?
It's even funnier to see the little mistakes that take place and the things that happen when our favorite celebs are caught off guard ... it just reminds you that we are all human. To those presenters who went in for a kiss on the cheek when the Oscar winner went in for a handshake, causing you to resort to an awkward bob and weave thing before walking off stage: I see you. To those winners who are holding on to their first little golden man and have to thank every person who you've ever met: Relax. I understand that this is an amazing commemoration and you obviously need to send thanks to the academy, and loved ones, but not everyone you've ever met, including the guy who makes your double shot latte every other week. We only got until 11 p.m. and still have a couple dozen little men to give away so if you could just keep it moving, we'd really appreciate it.
I've developed such a great appreciation for the Oscars, simply because it doesn't just focus on celebrities and how outrageous their outfits are but on all the people that are actually involved in the film-making process ... you know, those people who show up in the ending credits that you forget about? It's all those people — the cinematographers, animators, sound editors, make-up artists, documentarians, etc. that really make up the film industry.
By the way, am I the only one that didn't know there was such a thing as a "seat filler?" These are people who come and get a front row view of the stage for a brief moment (and keep your seat warm) while you go and present an award for the next nominee. Jeeze, Hollywood, you thought of everything now didn't you?
A final shout out to one of my faves, Mrs. Arquette, for taking a moment fin her award speech to acknowledge women's rights and equal pay for women. You are the real MVP. Nothing further, thanks for watching reading!
