My Best Advice For All PNMs

Recruitment week. It's a scary thought for those who have never before experienced it. Lots of girls get anxiety and stress over the mere thought of having a conversation with a complete stranger and trying to make yourself sound like a great new addition to their chapter. So when going through recruitment, remember these small little tips to make sure you get the most out of your experience. Here are a few terms that you will hear throughout the week.

PNM: potential new member.

Gamma Chi: your fearless leader.

Bouncing and clapping: the dancing and yelling happening when you walk inside each house. Don't worry, it scares us just as much as it scares you.

Smile, smile, smile.

A girl's best accessory is her smile, right?! So be sure and use yours! It will make the chapter happy to see that you are having a good time and that is something that will help you to stick out. Each chapter wants happy girls and what better way to show how excited you would be to join their chapter than with a genuine smile.

Don't go in with preconceived notions.

The worst thing you can do when going through recruitment is think you already know what each chapter is about. Just because you heard the cheesy nickname in high school doesn't mean their reputation or the rumors are true. Go in with an open mind and you will be surprised how happy you are after each party. Every chapter has a unique character that you will come to find though each round of recruitment. You should base all of your decisions off of your experiences, not what other people have told you. Just because your bestie from high school is in a certain chapter does not mean that is the chapter for you too. As hard as it may be, try to keep you opinions to yourself and go back to the houses that you really liked!

Relax.

I know that is the worst advice to hear when you are stressed, but the key to a good recruitment experience is to go home after each day and just relax. Don't keep reminiscing on the parties and chapters, just go home and think about something else! Call your Mom, Instagram a cute pic, spend some time in your Bible, do something that makes you happy!

Love your Gamma Chi.

Your Gamma Chi will be your best friend and strongest support through the week! She has been trained to make sure you have the best time possible, and end up where you are supposed to be. She will guide you and help you through every aspect of the week. Make friends with the girls in your group as well, some of them may even be your sisters by the end of the week! They understand the pressure and anxiety so talk it out with them, maybe even grab dinner or something! Gamma Chi groups are a great way to meet new friends and to start of your college experience the best possible way.

Be you because you rock.

Be yourself! Each chapter wants genuine and happy girls to add to their chapter. So don't try to be someone else in hopes that you will get the chapter all your friends want. Be you because your future chapter, whatever that may be, wants the best form of you!

"Trust the system."

You will hear this a million times in about a million different ways. Its a tad bit of a cliche but it is the best piece of advice I ever got. The reason thousands of girls join sororities each year is because of how effective the recruitment system is at each school. It works. you will end up where you are meant to be.

With recruitment approaching, be sure and get your outfits, recs, (and a portable fan) because it's coming quick and we are ready for you! Good luck in recruitment this year, ladies; you will all do fabulous! Just remember to smile and, above all else, have fun! Even though the week brings its own stresses, if you make the best out of it, you have nothing to worry about!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
